We already know this but might as well make it official:
James McAvoy has denied claims that he will play Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit films.
The actor was reported to be among the frontrunners to play the lead role in the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings prequel.
Speaking at a press conference for new film Wanted, he said: “It’s not true. It’s all internet rumouring and nothing else I’m afraid. Sorry.”
Director Guillermo del Toro recently told Empire that he and producer Peter Jackson had the same actor in mind for the role.
The Hobbit and its sequel will be shot back to back in New Zealand from next year.
McAvoy hasnt said that he WONT do it. He’s said that he hasnt been asked ‘yet’. He’s a long time Tolkien fan and loves the Lord of the Rings films. If he is asked, I’ve no doubt that he’ll say yes.
Yup, I can’t imagine him doing a furry fantasy character again after being Mr. Tumnus.
Good move. If he becomes a hobbit, next thing you know he’s doing Harry and the Hendersons II.
McAvoy is a very gifted actor, and would have made a most interesting choice for this role. But the actor apparently felt this would be a high maintenance kind of role, what with the layers of make-up and costuming. After his strong work in ATONEMENT and LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, many are enthused about his upcoming work.
Boo hiss. Though, I still don’t know if it will/would be a good idea, as well.
