Alarmed that Katherine Heigl might be doing a better job sabotaging her career than she is, Lindsay Lohan has magnanimously withdrawn her name from consideration for this year’s Emmys. What? You missed Lindsay’s tour de force performance on Ugly Betty? That’s what you get for blinking. For a couple of hours earlier today you could watch it unfold in its 31-second entirety on youtube, but I guess ABC feels the nuances of Lohan’s immersion in the role are best enjoyed on DVD. As New York Magazine observes:
Even though two of her four lines were “Betty!” and “That’s okay,” she knows there are no small parts, only very small odds of winning an Emmy, which is what everyone else would have had if she hadn’t withdrawn from the race. This whole thing makes us hope Britney Spears wins for her work on How I Met Your Mother (hilariously, Britney did submit her name for consideration) just so we can start a big fight about how it’s just like the 1980 summer Olympics and Britney wouldn’t have won if Lindsay hadn’t stayed home.
Oh NYM, must you mercilessly tease the psuedo-divas? As Katherine Heigl once said, “Only one man ever understood me, and he didn’t understand me.”
[ERRATUM: Apparently that last quote is from Hegel (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich) — but I’m sure Katie would concur.]
I know exactly what you mean, Tara. The whole thing was just an opening for me to slip in the Heigl-Hegel quote that I’ve been dying to use for days. 😎
I know, Ryan, and my apologies, no harm meant. That remark from your post was a good opening for the links I shared and nothing more.
Britney is the one I’d definitely picture putting herself a videotape in an envelope. I’d even see her licking the envelope to close it
Regarding the Heigl debacle and her supporters:
If Heigl is concerned about the depth of the writing surrounding her character she should not take her frustrations out on the writers by sending such a clear message and instead she should take a closer look at her schedule. Why would writers be willing to throw plots with some substance her way when she is unable to dedicate enough time to flesh out those plots due to her film career?
Arguing that the writers are to blame for her character’s lack of depth this season should not be done without first acknowledging and refuting claims that she simply did not have the time in her schedule to play a bigger part in the show.
She cannot have it both ways. It is always easier to assume the Fates behind scenes than to look at the whole picture.
Lohan’s move is just doing it for publicity. Slightly more pathetic but far less of an issue.
Tara, I’m the very last person you have to tip off about being facetious.
The first line of the entry was written from Lindsay Lohan’s imaginary perspective, and not meant to be taken too seriously.
I’m already on record in support of Katherine Heigl, right here.
So if we’re going to talk about Katherine allegedly sabotaging her career, are we also going to talk about Patrick Dempsey? Because boy, is he opinionated when it comes to the writing on Grey’s. Someone needs to put him in his place already. Who does he think he is anyway? What an insufferable ingrate! He should just shut up and stop biting the hand that feeds. And argh, when are his fifteen minutes going to be over?? (Etc.)

Yes, I am being facetious.
EDIT: Oh wait, here’s Ellen Pompeo, also going public with her complaints about the writing:

And I want it to be known that I am withdrawing my name from the Best Supporting Actor for “Milk”. I don’t feel that my part was large enough. I am the guy in blue in the background on Castro.
Omg, I thought she was the hands down favorite in the category. We all know who the winner should thank in their speech.
