Former TV Batbuddy Adam West has “only seen bits and pieces” of Chris Nolan’s Batman movies, but he’s unimpressed because, “they’re dark, gothic, sinister, full of explosions.”
“Back in my day, we didn’t know what visionary was, and we didn’t care! Back in my day, we tucked our dicks between our legs and minced around in homoeroticklish tights, and that’s the way we liked it!” he forgot to add.
But believe it or not, West really did say this: “With the villains, especially, it was almost Shakespearean because of the bizarre costuming and makeup. In those days we didn’t rely on special effects as much so everyone was challenged to use their imaginations.”
Shakespearean? I think he means Shape•scary•an.
Just saw an episode of Batman from ’66.
Bouff !! Biff !! Splatt !!
?!
Okaaaay…
Pretty much synonyms for Bonk, Bang & Splooge.
woof is right. (about Robin) He better have got ready to use some superpower defense around me or he would have got that cape all up over his head etc, lol. for an actor of the 60s decade he looks better than any other I can think off the top of my head. too bad he was stuck in TV as this type star, was it a comedy? obviously. weird. woof anyway!!
Anyone ever heard that story of how after BATMAN, Ward became a real estate agent, but only sold 2 houses in his entire career?
Don’t know if that is true or not, but damn….that’s sad.
Also, he apparently lost the Dustin Hoffman part in THE GRADUATE because of those “sidekick thighs.” Unsure if that is true as well, but still….poor guy.
agreed, Dorothy. Burt Ward, quite the cutie. Must admit, the “mariposa” remark was mostly projection, ha. I’d flutter around that Robin’s nest.
Need to see more, and I think I’ve found some 1966 episodes I can download.
Nice sidekick thighs Robin has, too.
Adam West – WWWF
Burt Ward – WOOF!
I did see that video, but never the Sylvania Transistorized Gaydar Device! That thing should be patented, stat 🙂
PS. Burt Ward was purty.
Dorothy, here’s a clip of the scene you’ve probably already found. Los Simpsons en Español, which is maybe even funnier!
Bart, you ask, “Who the hell is Robin?”
Robin era la primera mariposa del super-héroe!
Nothing against (or for) Adam West, but this is a chance for him to extend his fifteen minutes. I wouldn’t take his opinion to mean much. And even if I did, it wouldn’t keep me from seeing Christian Bale in black leather and a mask!
Glad you liked it, sartre 🙂 I tried finding a clip (it’s priceless), but no luck thus far.
Adam west is a loser. Who cares what he says. He’s not a good actor (see: Zombie Nightmare) and he’s bitter.
July 18th will be a monumental day in American Cinema
I like that there is a place in the world for both the camp 60s take and the more contemporary ones of Batman. Each offers up pleasures. I loved your Simpson’s quote Dorothy.
I think this quote from The Simpsons captures the spirit of this post, not to mention Mr. West’s mindset.
In any case, it’s from Mr. West’s cameo at the family’s visit to a car show.
“Homer: Adam West! Hey, kids! Batman!!
Lisa: Dad, that’s not the real Batman.
Adam West: Of course I’m the Batman. See, here’s a picture of me with Robin.
Bart: Who the hell is Robin?
Adam West: I suppose you’re only familiar with the new Batman movies. Michelle Pfeiffer? Ha! The only true Catwoman is Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, or Eartha Kitt. And I didn’t need molded plastic to improve my physique. Pure. West. And why doesn’t Batman dance anymore? Remember the Batusi?
Homer: Heh. Nice meetin’ ya…Just keep moving, don’t make eye contact…”
Oh yes…the Batusi.
This is all weird, considering that Adam West told USA TODAY back in ’05 that he liked BATMAN BEGINS.
Then again, considering he’s also the Mayor of Quahog…..maybe he’s just in one of his inconsistent days.
How weird. I just finished watching the 60s Batman movie with commentary by West and Burt Ward, which was amusing. Is anybody really surprised by this, though? The closest he came to probably liking a modern Batman was Batman Forever. He’s said before that he knew the writing and everything about the show was dumb, but he liked that it was dumb. I will say, it is enjoyable to watch, but luckily, West isn’t an authority on the final verdict for the movie.
Who cares…He probably thought Batman Begins was lame too. It’s a generational thing I guess. He’s nostalgic about the 60s version, but as Cheese (from the Wire) said so poignantly, “aint no nostalgia to this shit here”.
“I was also forced to use my imagination when one of my brothers tore the arms and legs off my GI Joe doll…I still played with it, but that doesn’t mean it was better.”
ha! ha! Craig! that’s classic. Look at it this way — you were the first kid on your block with a prototype of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Transformer!
Alexander, no doubt West can’t understand why Nolan won’t toss him a cameo role like Bill Bixby or Lou Ferrigno got with Hulk. What’s up with the yellow cummerbund on 1960’s Batman’s Danskins? Flotation belt? Electric Ab Stimulator? Adam West should be happy that his legacy lives on as inventor of the fanny pack.
I was also forced to use my imagination when one of my brothers tore the arms and legs off my GI Joe doll…I still played with it, but that doesn’t mean it was better.
Imagination is overrated. Give me darkness and explosions. Or at least a couple of monkeys with laser rifles and jet packs.
Also: “Homoeroticklish” ahahahaha
Ahahahahaha…
Guess I better write up an essay comparing Christopher Nolan’s thematic obsessions to Fritz Lang and send it to Adam West.
Adam: “Fritz who?!”
Maybe West can ask Nolan, “Why so serious?” 🙂
Sincerely, though, different generations and all that… I do remember seeing the Adam West TV show back when I was quite young on, I believe, Saturday mornings? Campy and amusing enough, though even then I thought it was a bit too absurd. “POW!” 🙂
