The Telluride Film Festival may be the most "pure" out of the three festivals. There is no business to be done in Telluride. There are no red carpet arrivals or galas. Films are not competing against each other. The press has to get in line like ...
Marketing films now requires a broader knowledge of how kids now communicate, and how information travels from person to person. It isn't just a matter of releasing trailers and hoping for the best, or planting opinions online. Studios are now requires to know their monster well. ...
The truth is that a really good film will get a great response no matter where it plays, no matter how much early buzz there is, no matter how many people see it early: No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Slumdog Millionaire. These films are ...

I was just thinking that Alecia. Her voice sounds different which is good I think. The first half of the trailer made me think of both L.A Confidential and The Black Dahlia. I pray to God it’s more like the former.
Anyway, I’m pretty excited to see Ms. Jolie and I think she looks really convincing in this.

I loved Unforgiven. Mystic River remains one the best films I’ve seen. But I barely put up with Million Dollar Baby. This trailer makes this film look worse.

it looked like Gone Baby Gone back in the 30′s, without the Bostnnnn accents and the white trash…

Excellent. Does what every good trailer should do; gets its emotional hooks into the viewer while setting out an intriguing premise & (very shrewdly) not giving any of the scripts many twists & turns away. The Clint haters will be furious (always an amusing spectacle). Jolie looks terrific, production values are aces & Tom Stern’s cinematography typically impressive – maybe this year he’ll actually get a nomination.
And interesting to see it billed as ‘A Clint Eastwood Film.’ Eastwood usually disdains that kind of affectation unless he feels the subject matter needs the kind of boost that his name could give it. Changeling by all accounts is pretty grim (think Mystic River harrowing) so I guess that’s the reasoning. Same goes for the initial limited release which should allow Universal to harvest the expected critical raves & word of mouth before taking it wide.
I wonder if we’ll see further trailers that address, erm, other aspects of this amazing true story?
Michael says:

It looks beautiful, possibly over stylized.
Overall: very histrionic – but that is all AJ can do.
Sorry, I’m not a huge fan of her and her screaming.
Hopefully the seemingly beautiful cinematography will be matched in other categories.

“I know my son is still out there. I feel him”.
Sooooooooo cliche. If they focus more on the LAPD corruption and less on her son, I would have been more interested. Jolie will not win best actress. She will get a nod, thats all. Good cinematography, costumes, probably editing, and makeup though.

“Mystic River” and “Million Dollar Baby” are two of my favorite films. Clint Eastwood, in my opinion, keeps getting better and better, and this looks like it’ll keep him at the top of his game.

Not sure yet, it hits a lot of the right notes but as Sasha pointed out it does have a vague Black Dahlia vibe to it. It doesn’t feel as emotionally powerful as so many of Clint’s recent films, but of course this is judging from the trailer. Hope I get to see it soon.

Zed, I’m pretty sure the use of “A Clint Eastwood Film” was done only for the trailer.
While I’m still very much looking forward to this movie, I gotta say that I’m getting really sick of that same damn music being used at the end of every trailer. This is the fourth I’ve heard it in in under a year’s time (the other three being Gone Baby Gone, Appaloosa, and Pride & Glory) and I don’t even watch that many trailers.
Free says:

Looks like it’s very nice photographed, but I otherwise was not pulled in. Jolie as a good actress (a la A Mighty Heart) is a rarity to come by these days. I agree, her screaming and throwing things isn’t exactly a draw.
If the reviews are there, I’ll check it out I suppose. Otherwise, like so many others have stated, it just looks kind of “eh.”
Marshall says:

I think recent history has shown that Clint pulls it off better down and dirty working on the fly (MILLION DOLLAR, LETTERS FROM IWO) than with big budget epics. I know a lot of people like MYSTIC RIVER but it’s too rich for me, GONE BABY GONE was so much better. For this reason I think I’m putting my eggs in the GRAN TORINO basket.

alynch, you beat me to it. i was gonna say the exact same thing. thought the trailer was going so well then in comes that music. i felt that it was just sooo distracting cause i’m annoyed everytime i hear it. i was annoyed during the appaloossa trailer becuase of it and here it comes again. can’t these people find some different music. but other than that no complaints. Clint Eastwood is my hero and i’m certain that this will be another great film from him.
Matthew says:

Not a fan of Clint Eastwood, nor am I a fan of Angelina Jolie. That trailer only made me less into it than I was before. It’ll be nominated, because it’s Eastwood. This makes me sad. I hope Jolie doesn’t get nominated. I really do not enjoy her non-realistic screaming. Screaming and yelling are okay when it’s believable. But with Jolie, I feel like she just is looking at the camera saying: “Look, I’m acting, isn’t that the coolest!?”
Although I was very happy to see Colm Feore in that. Yay. One good thing.
Pierre de Plume says:

I’m underwhelmed, but you never know.
“Very histrionic,” as Michael says above, seems to be an appropriate assessment of the trailer, but one can hope.
I won’t be surprised if it does well, but for myself — I need some convincing.
Ross says:

I wasn’t impressed at all.
Great cinematography actually. I liked the overstylized nature of the visuals, but then again, Angelina Jolie simply didn’t pull it off and the trailer gets into cliches and extreme situations, which I don’t believe would make a really interesting film.
Anyway, I think Malkovich will get a nod.

CM says:

The unfounded hatred and bias towards her and anything associated with her is still wrongly and strongly thriving. It is insane what a piece of gossip can do and how it can cause a misportrayal about everything and have such a negative impact on people’s minds and
behavior. A tiny minority understand the truth behind what I am saying. I do not want to provoke a debate about that or incite personal attacks against me and her. Most of the world jumped on that bandwagon and I am not suprised to see evidence of that on this board. There are people who already are developing a bandwagon against this movie and don’t want to give it a fair chance
because they wrongly think she is something that she is not.
It is a shame when quality films have to suffer a backlash because of that. There is nothing cliche about this movie and it is emotionally powerful. The performances from the entire cast are impressive. Angelina more than pulls it off and she delivers a fine performance.
There is nothing histrionic and melodramatic about it. Those comments made me sick knowing how exceptional her peformance was and how good the movie is. Though I know people will dislike it and attack her peformance no matter what. I know people will nit pick and try to come up with any reasons to degrade this movie even if they know it is bs and inaccurate. I knew the haters would quickly jump at the chance to pour cold water on this film. This movie is bound to win a couple of awards and I know most people will resent any success the movie achieves. I know her likely Best Actress nomination will cause a huge upset. This movie is a masterpiece and one of Clint’s best films, probably in the top three. I can go on and on about it and give an in-depth review but I don’t want to reveal too much and I know it will just make people more determined to dislike it. She is an amazing actress and the best of her is yet to come. She
is also a wonderful person and the most misunderstood woman on the planet. I would actually advise the few people who are not involved in you know what to stay away from the posts relating to her because it is traumatic and it is very hard not to respond. I know I should not be responding to it. I expect The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to also receive a similar bias and have a bandwagon of people against it. I know alot of people would have been impressed with the film and her peformance if that wrong viewpoint based on lies, false accusations, contradictions, and distortions did not exist. I hope both of the movies are able to overcome that bias and still succeed on some level.

CM — although I’m one of those who used the word “histronics,” I’m keeping an open mind until I see the film. I actually like Jolie, and I didn’t find anything bad about her performance from the trailer.
My reaction was to the trailer, which touched off a couple of red flags. At this point, I can see the possibility that this may be a good film or, at minimum, the public and/or Academy may go for it.
Meantime, I expressed skepticism — on the basis of the trailer — that the film might please others more than it pleases me.
Your points are well taken. I also object to biases about Jolie — professonal or personal — resulting from judgments made about her personal life.

This trailer looks fantastic. I for one am a huge Eastwood and Jolie film. I think they two of them together will prove unstoppable.
The end of the trailer: the; “I want my son back. I want MY son back.” – heartbreaking. Jolie really looks like shes nailed it.

Never been impressed with Eastwood as a director (overall). Never been impressed with Jolie as an actress (overall). Always willing to let a movie change my mind, but it’s hard for me to get excited about this one based off the trailer. The story, setting and tone is all territory I’ve been before watching movies.
