Yey! You’re welcome.
Its curious seeing Kate Winslet as Leading here, instead of Supporting in all other awards. Anne is already lock with Meryl I guess. And Penelope Cruz is the “Bardem / Mirren / Seymour Hoffman” of the year?

Think at last year´s Atonement!

awsome… more love for TDK… and RDJ…
i think its safe to say that Revolutionary Road is going to be the INTO THE WILD of the year… and i bet anything it will only take nominations for best supporting actor and best adapted screenplay…

Again, an affirmation of the greatness of MILK, of the enduring promise of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, and of the year’s best animated film WALL*E.
The last, alas, has its own category with AMPAS, and it would behoove Academy members not to vote it in both best picture categories. Besides which, it merely obviates actors themselves, whose numbers constitute the greatest voting body of the Academy.
Clearly, however, the critical concensus is that these are the three most accomplished films of the year.
I would argue that MILK trumps SLUMDOG if only because it also has the imprimatur of the most venerable and second oldest of the nation’s critical groups, the New York Film Critics (not to be confused with their very recent online counterparts)–and the NYFC have an unblemished history of choosing masterpieces that stand the test of time, from 1935 onward.
This further reveals not merely the myopathy but what can only be explained as homophobia on the part of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, all but ignoring MILK, save for Penn’s quintessential title role.
Indeed, Sean Penn, whose Milk characterization is extraordinary, is the one to beat for this year’s best actor Oscar, unless the homophobes at AMPAS have their way–and likewise their counterparts at HFPA.
Mickey Rourke is a fine come-back choice in THE WRESTLER, but Penn is absolute perfection as Milk, the crowning glory of his supreme acting career thus far.
But MILK, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, and WALL*E are alone at the top; the others, now quite clearly, by general concensus on a lesser tier.

Yeah I feel like the only reason why Winslet is not winning left and right is because of the Reader lead/supporting confusion and its possible vote splitting with her other lead performance. Sigh. Too bad. She just can’t get a break can she?
But a great top ten list indeed. The top four is still MY top four and they are beautiful films. Very nice winner list as well with Anne Hathaway throwing in her claim to the Best Actress pie as Sean Penn, Heath Ledger, and Penelope Cruz take this pie and every other pie in sight.
Now I’m hungry.

I think I am most amused this season by the performance of Let the Right One In among the critics. It seems to be picking up a lot of the foreign film slots, making the AMPAS rules look even more ridiculous than usual.

Thanks for the reminder, Dylan.
I’ll add it to the main post.
