Oscar Luncheon Photos

By far the best thing about the Oscars luncheon is the group shot with all of the Oscar nominees.  If I were a nominee I’d be damned sure I would be there just to get into the group shot.  And here it is in all its glory.

Ellen Kuras was also the D.P. for Eternal Sunshine, so that’d make sense.

I think Mickey Rourke holding a dainty tea cup is hilarious. Almost us funny as him holding his dainty dogs.

I love how Thomas Newman looks like he’s hiding behind people.

And the people who showed up just boosted their odds… well maybe not.

May I just comment on how awesome Werner Herzog looks next to Michael Shannon? I’m having a lot of fun trying to figure out what he is thinking. Martin McDonagh looks rather badass as well.

awww, look at my black sistas graciously frolicking and looking drop deap gorgeous. I’m so proud of Taraji, she has come a long way. She delivered stunning after stunning performances in all her movies, regardless of how small her roles were.

I hope Davis and Henson find more good work. One can only hope.

…as for Rourke, what is he drinking? tea? I doubt

Heh, Werner Herzog for the win.

Josh Brolin is between Gus Van Sant and Danny Elfman, second row from the top, to the right of Oscar (four people to the right, to be exact). : )

It took me a while to spot Penn, simply because of the reflex of looking for someone with a scowl. : ) The smile sure throws a scowl-searcher for a loop.

I think Langella, Penn, and Robert Downey Jr is a great line up, mostly because you can totally make thought-bubbles for each of them. For instance, Downey Jr looks like he just pulled a prank that no one discovered yet, like loosening the salt-shaker at the luncheon or something. : D

    Simplistic thoughts:

    1. Michael Shannon is tall.
    2. A.R. Rahman is not.
    3. Brian Grazer is a strange looking man.
    4. Diggin’ the girl power section of Cruz, Hathaway, and Henson. They’d totally hang out together in high school. (Beige Ladies?)
    5. Can’t tell which is the gold centerpiece: the Oscar or Robert Downey Jr’s tie.

It’s fun to imagine a bucket of pig’s blood hanging over Ron Howard’s head, and Piper Laurie’s voice scolding:

“They’re all going to laugh at you!
They’re all going to laugh at you!”

(Yes, that’s me, William Katt, age 55.

Where’s Heath? Come on man, even Penn came.
    - That was kinda mean, but I laughed out loud. Funny as hell.
    - Penn looking cool as usual.
    - I just love Frank Langella. Too bad the season has been unkind to him.
    - Amy Adams looking great. And I’m not even a fan.
    - Can’t stand Anne Hathaway. She’s the real Joker to me. Have you seen her mouth when she smiles? Ehh, creepy.
    - No Brangelina. Thank God. How I wish they wouldn’t attend the awards too!
    - Michael Sheen had to be there. He deserved a nomitation. I can’t get over this.
    - RDJ *drooling insanely* is just too awesome for words…
    - Mickey Rourke = no taste. Scary.
    - Marisa Tomei looks weird. There’s something in her face…I noticed that in the SAGs too. Maybe some plastic surgery?
    - Penelope looks regal. Never thought this chick would make it so big…
    - Wow, Gus Von Sant was looking quite decent. Well, it doesn’t matter anyway. The man is one of my personal idols.
    - I like Ron Howard for some random reason. He reminds me of my uncle! hahahaha
    - Kate Winslet looking like a winner! ha!
    - I miss Meryl.
    - I miss Philip Seymour Hoffmann.
    - I miss Stephen Daldry (I don’t see him in the pic. Is he there?)

    That Heath comment was funny!

Maybe Penelope got to sit because she was wearing pants? Wouldn’t have been comfy for the women in tight skirts.

Whoever said Hathaway was creepy is right! And her round table? So annoying and a bit pretentious.

Kate and Taraji were radiant. P looked sexy.

I said she was creepy. And I mean it. She’s the real Joker. Put some make up and she’ll ace both Heath and Jack! She’s got the natural looks for the part. Just check her mouth! And she was soooo bitchy and self important in the round table! I never liked her and probably never will.
I only noticed Herzog now. I’m such a dummy. I probably spent too much time looking for Mr. Daldry and didn’t pay attention to the rest…
Frank Langella’s expression is priceless. It seems like he wanted to laugh so hard! LOL!

[...] Posted in Academy Awards 08, Film Awards tagged 81st Oscar Nominee Luncheon at 5:08 pm by Nick Plowman One random thing I love about the Oscars are the nominee luncheon photos. Not sure why exactly, but there’s always been something about them that fascinated me. Perhaps it’s the sifting through a row of very ordinary faces to find that one gleaming star smile, seeing whose in attendance and who isn’t, and so on. It’s a time wasting thing. This year, Meryl Streep, Brad and Angelina and Philip Seymour Hoffman were not in attendance – for whatever reasons – and I think it stripped the photo of some of the qualities I love about them. Basically, what we have here is like the main photo of a high school yearbook where some of the most popular kids aren’t in it, and a bunch of nobodies are sort of spaced around one central popular kid. Regardless, can I just say how stunning Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway and the support actress nominees look? You could say that makes up for those who are missing, more or less. It may be a boring Oscar race – even with the uncertainty surrounding the actress categories and who might win – but it sure offers some of the best looking nominated actresses in a while. [AwardsDaily] [...]
