A really late to the table article gets printed on Huffington Post. Is this 2009? I almost ignored this because frankly as tired as you all are reading about how the Dark Knight got screwed, I am equally tired of reading people piling on Benjamin Button. It irritates me beyond all possible imaginings. This latest column says something to the effect of “Hollywood should make ten more Milks and no more Benjamin Buttons,” and the reasoning behind it being that the lower the budget, the higher the return, etc. It’s as if Buster there was dropped off the moon and into the year 2009. Doesn’t he even pay attention to what kinds of films “Hollywood” has been making for the past several years? And what kinds of films Oscar has been recognizing for the past several years? And how the gap between the little movies that Oscar (and Buster there) likes and the movies that “the people” like is ever-widening? I have no objection to the “ten more Milks” thing but not because it’s a little movie with a low budget but because it was a passion-project, and an original screenplay and a good movie. But guess what, if you take out the budget part, so was Benjamin Button.
Five years too late. At least.
