I was surprised to find that there was an item in my feed for The Wrap that was a link to an article about awards news on a page that couldn’t access because, presumably, I was not a guild member or an Academy member. The headline was:
Primetime Emmy Nominees … and Winners
Updating during the live telecast — category by category, see who took home the gold.
So when you click on it it says, “sorry you don’t have access to this page.” This makes me wonder why I even have The Wrap on my RSS reader if I can’t access certain information. So I clicked further to discover this:
With the Awards Season quickly approaching, TheWrap.com is dedicated to provide you with everything you need in one dynamic and easy to use website.
Thank you for helping us keep our records updated so we can be sure you receive invites to our exclusive events, VIP seating at our “First Take” screening series, and TheWrap.com’s Oscar-related newsbreaks and updates straight to your email.
If you are a qualified member of the guilds or Academy and did not receive the promo code by mail and would like to get access to our special award-season coverage, please send us an email with your name and affiliation so that we can provide you with the code.
This is interesting, non?  I bring it to you, Oscar watchers, because I expect they will really put the petal to the metal come Oscar time. It kind of makes me feel badly for Academy members who are always under siege. I remember speaking with one last year who told me that every piece of paper he gets aimed at him goes right into the trash can. Nonetheless, I will be curious to see if The Wrap is successful in funneling those readers away from Variety and other sources.
