New Avatar Trailer Hits the Web
I am so geeked out with anticipation I will lose my mind before it’s all over with. The Avatar trailer hit theaters and moments later, hit the web — someone got a camera and filmed it, then slapped it on the web. I know this is illegal. But hey, here you go Avatards.
Alas, both have been taken down! The trailer will hit the web officially soon.

I heart Avatards!
I don’t want to see Amelia again but I understand the new trailer is attached to it.
What to do, what to do…

Isn’t that opening music sequence the one that has been used in The Island, Elizabeth 2, Seven Pounds and numerous other movies?

I liked this quite a bit, actually. I grinned through most of it, which is a pretty good.
they’re advertising the advertising space for the opening of this film here in Rio, so I suppose it’s pretty big =P
having said that, some of Worthington’s line readings were pretty wooden.

oh, oh!!
and I wonder if the right will go crazy over the film’s anti-colonialism message!

I want to see this right after New Moon which I want to see NOW! So pumped I am for this thing after mud-o-vision trailer. I mean, I was going from hot to cold about this but, damn, this bootleg thing looks like major event. Lots of cheese and spectacle. It`s gonna rock. Really can`t wait! It`s almost tying New Moon on my anticipation scale which is a major compliment.

This is a far, far better trailer than the previous and actually makes me excited for the film. The action sequences look amazing.
I will say that you are right on the money Tyler. I watched the 15 minute preview, and the dialogue was grating. It was kids movie type dialogue, and not of the Pixar variety, more of the Saturday morning cartoon variety.
But there’s a glimmer of hope with that trailer. Very well edited and the music fits perfectly.

@ srh1son
You mean the Dances With Wolves that grossed around 300 Million adjusted in 1990 and was nominated for 12 Oscars, winning 7?
That Dances With Wolves?
Laura says:

So now that we finally know the plot of this movie…. um, WTF, this movie actually IS a live-action version of “Fern Gully”?! Or a remake of “Dances With Wolves”? What with the whole, Heartless U.S. Government Trying to Steal Land/Resources From the Natives That They Assume are Savages, but are Actually More Evolved Than Them. And the whole thing with the guy who originally starts out as a bad guy, but changes his mind once he joins the “savages”.
Man, I was hoping that this movie would have a much more original story. This kind of story has been done a lot. How disappointing.
Yvette says:

Ryan Griffin says:
Friday, October 23, 2009 at 3:00pm
Does the plot have a lot in common with previous movies? At a base level, yes. But Cameron ALWAYS paints with broad strokes with his characters and plot, but he does a damn good job of taking those broad strokes in interesting directions and making them awesome, while blowing your pants off with amazing effects and action.
It’s a bit like condemning The Incredibles before hand because a story of a superhero family has been done to death with Fantastic Four already. Just because the premise is similar doesn’t mean the journey won’t be worthwhile.
Dan says:

Oh lord, I think I’ve just seen the final stages of the end of nuance, of art, and of cinema as a valid form of communication. It’s like watching a dying animal in a psychedelic cage while suffering with H1N1. My god this looks horrific.

Laura says:
Friday, October 23, 2009 at 3:32pm
Ryan Griffin, I hear what you’re saying. Although, I would argue that The Incredibles didn’t have that much in common with Fantastic Four, because F4 is about a superhero family (all adults) in their prime with society and their powers, whereas The Incredibles was about a superhero couple that used to have glory days, but now is forced to live in obscurity with their two young children – and how they deal with that. So, I would say that the basic plots are pretty different.
As for Avatar, I dunno… I guess I’ll wait to hear what the reviews have to say. I just wish the plot that Cameron chose wasn’t so cliche and predictable.
Ryan Griffin says:
Friday, October 23, 2009 at 3:37pm
Laura, that’s exactly my point. Condemning The Incredibles prematurely for similarities to Fantastic Four is silly, because in the end The Incredibles is its own movie. Likewise, condemning Avatar prematurely for similarities to Dances with Wolves is silly, because…

Guys. Dances with Wolves didn’t have robots/cyborgs and spaceships. Anyway, Dances with Wolves with robots and spaceships sounds like a great premise for a film.
This movie looks like it’s fun.

“Isn’t that opening music sequence the one that has been used in The Island, Elizabeth 2, Seven Pounds and numerous other movies?”
Good catch, A.J. Roscoe.
Off the The Island soundtrack, by Steve Jablonsky, called “My Name is Lincoln” (the familiar theme kicks in around 1:12)
The Island was DreamWorks, but Spielberg has always been cozy with Fox and Universal (Elizabeth: The Golden Age)
Who re-owns this theme best? Elizabeth I or King James?

Laura says:
Friday, October 23, 2009 at 7:05pm
Ryan Griffin, the point that I was making was that The Incredibles is actually not that similar to the Fantastic Four at all – other than the fact that they are both super-hero families, the basic plot is really different. Whereas the basic plot of Avatar is very similar to Ferngully, Dances With Wolves, and others:
1) Heartless Govt/Corporation trying to steal land/resources from natives
2) Said natives are actually more evolved than the bad guys
3) A bad guy goes into native territory, and ends up becoming one wholeheartedly
4) Said bad guy/now good guy falls in love with a native
5) Said bad guy/now good guy leads the charge to fight against the bad guys
As for the ending, since this movie is fiction, I’m assuming they’re going to go with the Ferngully-esque Natives Win ending. I doubt they’ll be going with the historically accurate Natives Lose ending in Dances With Wolves. Although that would be interesting…

Yeah, that Dances With Wolves.
I appreciate the facts. I had no idea it won 7 Oscars including Best Picture; I just visit an Oscar blog for no real reason. In a sign of solidarity with your powers of debate, I’ve thrown out my copy of GoodFellas, since it no longer matters.

Wow, impressive trailer. Better. Still a touch skeptical. Definitely looks better though.
Annie Le’s story was inspiring and the crime against her broke my heart. She had unlimited potential both personal and professional. She was by all accounts brilliant, kind, and dedicated. here is a nice tribute.

This movie looks terrible, why do so few see it? The blue guys look hilarious and the animation doesn’t look impressive at all. This movie is going to be a RELATIVE bomb. Meaning, it will stick make 100million or so, but won’t make back it’s budget once people realize it’s a bloated, TITANIC mess.
