When they call out all the nominees and show their faces on the screen right before they announce the winner, it’s going to be like Kathryn Bigelow and her garden gnomes. The woman is gorgeous.

Regardless of Shankman’s insistence that all nominees are created equal, the Laws of Celebrity Physics create natural gravitational hotspots. Nevertheless, the guy in the top row far right is having more fun than anybody.

    I love that
    a) Meryl Streep looks like she always does – like she’s having a great time,
    b) that Colin Firth is pretty damned dashing in the back row,
    c) that Tarantino looks like he’s being held up b/c he had a few too many martinis at the lunch
    and
    d) that the guy to left of Oscar looks like he’s goosing the statute

Gabby and Carey have gotten to be good friends. That is the most surprising development of this Awards season. Who would have thought?

    I want Vera Farmiga’s dress!

And yes, Ryan: Mr. Smiley on the right is hilarious! Also love the guy holding up the paper-cutout head of (I assume) an absent nominee. Nicely done.

Lovely photos. Nice to see them all together.
James Cameron looks old and Bigelow standing next to him isn’t helping his cause (simply gorgeous). He should definitely do something about that hair.

I’m not sure which is more inappropriate: Clooney, Firth, and Freeman with half their shirts unbuttoned, or Cameron with his turtleneck sweater. It’s a damn formal event!

Anyway, I’m still disturbed with Cameron’s whole new long-haired, clean-shaven, politely smiling, somewhat tubby, turtleneck-sweater-wearing community college literature professor look.

Interesting that Hollywood power players (Cameron, Clooney, Streep, Bullock) are huddled in one area.

No Dame Mirren or Mo’Nique. :(

Is that a ghost hand on the shoulder of the guy standing next to Lee Daniels?

Thanks Ryan – i had to blow her up (in the nicest possible way). Wonder if Mirren has repudiated the Oscar niceties knowing that she hasn’t got a snowball’s chance to win – or whether she is legitimately ‘on location’ or otherwise indisposed.

Can’t recall the last time a nominee who was living was not in attendance on the big night. Will she come?

Seems like Mr Bridges is the big man on campus right now!

Something inside me wants to punch Jason Reitman in the face… Maybe it’s his shit-eating grin. I can’t stand him after his bitch-a-thon about wanting to be the only writer credited for Up in the Air since he probably knows his film (although very lovely and one of my favorites this year) doesn’t really stand a chance and his only award prospects would be for Adapted Screenplay. The big baby… He’s what? 16 years old? And has two directing nominations under his belt? A great feat truth be told, but he needs to make a few more movies to be considered one of the big boys (and not a one or two hit wonder).

thanks Guany – i thought it would be one of the dames that wouldn’t make it. Dench was nominated so many times in the last decade! In the 70′s and 80′s it was more commonplace for there to be absent nomineed – not in the last decade though.

L`oreal should fire Pinto and hire Jason Reitman`s hair which is all natural wonder to behold. He`s such a cutie.

Cameron looks like a disaster, lmao, and he doesn`t seem to care. Daniels is trying to squeeze Reitman`s moob and Reitman looks so happy about it. Shit, he hasn`t looked happier in a long time.

Cameron looking away – does that man get any public appearance in Hollywood right?! So good with the geeks, so terrible with the in-crowd.

And yeah, right, everyone is going to get cut off at 45 seconds. The applause for Bigelow is going to last 45 minutes. :-) She doesn’t say much, but she’s usually so breathless she takes a while to get her short speech out. No way they cut her off. That being said, her turn comes at the end of the show.

I heard 14 acting nominees were confirmed. So, the 6 that aren’t there:
    Monique
    Helen Mirren
    Tucci
    Plummer
    Penelope
    and Damon?
are any of those 6 there?

And is that Fisher Stevens in the front row? I’m going to imdb right now to figure out what he is nominated for.
