There is a rumor going around that some Academy members are voting strategically in hopes of pushing their favorite through. Favorite, in this case, probably doesn’t mean the movie they liked best but rather, the movie that their buddy made, or their boss made, or their girlfriend starred in, or their studio distributed. The way I hear it told they are putting their favorites at the top, and its competition towards the bottom so that their vote, if thrown out for their favorite, doesn’t go to their favorite’s competition. This is, in my opinion, lowdown and dirty dealings and perhaps one of the reasons they’ll have to eventually toss the ten nominees and toss the preferential ballots. One would hope that they would exhibits actual signs of integrity and vote their choices 1 through 10.
