John Logan’s Red won 6 Tony Awards last night: Best Play, Best Director, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Featured Actor, Eddie Redmayne. Deadline reports Redmayne and Logan will soon for Miraculous Year, a pilot to be directed by Kathyn Bigelow for HBO (yes, it’s apparently HBO Day at Awards Daily). The Broadway-based series is expected to feature roles for Norbert Leo Butz, Hope Davis, Frank Langella and Patti LuPone.
Miraculous Year is described as an examination of a New York family as seen through the lens of Terry Segal (Butz) a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer and lyricist. Langella would play Terry‚Äôs father Alex, a famous painter and imposing figure who is beginning to feel the effects of aging. Davis would play Terry‚Äôs sister Mandy Vance, a corporate lawyer who has never quite made it to the top tier and has always lived in the shadows Hope Davisof her famous father and brother. Redmayne would play a captivating and sexy singer/dancer in Terry‚Äôs new show who will come to play a major part in Terry‚Äôs life. In a role that could be recurring, LuPone would play a Broadway diva.
