Biutiful Trailer Hits
A hard movie, an amazing movie – and one that was received poorly by many critics at Cannes save for a few of us who really loved it. Me, I see life differently than many of those dudes at the film fest. I’m not going to get myself stuck back in that argument again, however. All I will say is that as you come out of your more difficult years you look back at life and see it differently. We are all made and shaped differently so my experience can’t be applied to everyone. Groupthink is like a virus, however, and only about ten years on can we look back and see the movie for what it is.

Sasha Stone gives Sasha Stone’s review of Biutiful 4 stars: “Sasha was really ahead of the curve here,” Stone writes, “betraying a wisdom that is both of her years — because who born in a different year has lived? no one — and beyond them. I’m surprised anyone who is either older or younger than her and has been made or shaped differently even has the gall to watch movies after this truly Biutiful review has silenced the Internet. Hallelujah, Amen. -Sasha Stone.” Sasha Stone reporting.

I am not a huge fan of this trailer, the narration kind of got in the way in a few places (liked it in others). However, this is still a must see for me, the images look great so that is very promising.

Well, this trailer, along with The Social Network have now made me eager for both.

I don’t really like the voice-over in the trailer, but the images are arresting, the cinematography looks stunning, and after everything I’ve heard about Bardem, I must give this one a look. Plus, I suppose I’m part of the few who thought ‘Babel’ deserved every Oscar nomination it received, and after repeat viewings, I still stand by that.

I can tell that I will love this film. It is right up my alley. I loved Babel and so did many people I know. It did deserve all of its nominations. I guess it just depends what one can relate to.

You engage in groupthink all the time, though. Your recent post about Inception and your trumpeting of The Dark Knight are nothing if not examples of groupthink.
Anyway, I’m going to see this film for Javier Bardem alone. Innaritu takes himself way too seriously nowadays — Babel was pretentious nonsense; Amores Perros was great — but maybe this one will work better for me.

Hey Sasha…is there a reason the trailer keeps switching aspect ratios? Is that how the film is?

Beautiful cinematography and nicely edited, but WTF is that awful, ham-fisted monologue, and whose voice is it coming from? Please tell me that’s not in the film.

I was kinda dissapointed with Babel when I saw it on cinemas, but after a repeted view I absolutely loved it. I could see the beauty of the message, the beauty of the cinematography and the power of the performances. So, with Iñárritu behind the cameras again, this is a must-see for me.
This week I realized that this year looks amazing on movies. I’m pretty exciting about the coming movies

I mean, the way it’s cut makes it look intriguing, and the music thread throught gives it a pulse, and the images striking. But. For a 2 minute “trailer”… WTF’s it supposed to be about. There isn’t even a hint of what the plot might be.

As one of “those dudes” at Cannes that hated this, the voiceover in the trailer is better than the film by a longshot. I completely respect Sasha and her fervent defense of the film though.
