Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, teaser trailer

Director Tomas Alfredson reteams with his editor and cinematographer from Let the Right One In. (Dino Jonsäter Hoyte Van Hoytema). Gary Oldamn in the role that won Alec Guinness huge acclaim and a TV BAFTA for Best Actor in 1979. Could this be Oldman’s best shot at an Oscar nomination in years?

The job of distilling John Le Carré’s simmering psychological thriller to an essence even more concentrated than the intense 5-hour miniseries fell to husband-and-wife screenwriting team Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor. Very sadly, Ms. Connor died of cancer last year at the age of 49. From her Guardian obituary:

Filming began recently in Budapest on their adaptation of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, developed with the Swedish director Tomas Alfredson. These three rare talents, all with theatre backgrounds, were having a great time with a book that they loved. Tim Bevan, of the UK Film Council and Working Title, noted that Bridget brought “a non-sentimental, unexpected, visceral approach to each scene that made her screenwriting exciting and exceptional. Great movie writers are rare in this country and she was one of them.”
