Whoa, I didn’t think it’d be possible to get this butthurt about lens flare.
I love Tintin, I love Snowy, I own every single story of theirs; I expect great things from this movie, especially with Spielberg behind it. I was just commenting on how, _for this still alone_, the lens flare seems to take centre stage, as it has in some other movies recently.

Why, thank you!
You may be right. I was just joking.

“And, by the way, leave Spielberg and his artistic flourishes alone. If it were Malick or Fincher, you’d all be saying, “LOOK HOW INCREDIBLY ARTISTIC WOOOW!!!!””
No we wouldn’t. Malick and Fincher would never use lens flare. That’s what makes them great artists. 😛

“There is no lens flare in that picture.”
Um… yes there is. It’s straight down the center, those small yellow circles.
It looks like there are three classifications of people: those who see lens flare, those who see it only when it’s pointed out, and those who can’t see it even after it’s been pointed out.

It’s okay here. I just don’t like it when it’s a long, purposeless streak across the screen, like it was in about 20 shots in Super 8. I thought that looked really cheap…

“To all the people who feel the need to comment on the “Lens flare”: would you have noticed or mentioned it had it not been pointed out to you in the first place?”
Yes.
And even if I hadn’t, the person who first pointed it out noticed it without anyone pointing it out to him.
In other words, it’s noticible.

I love the imagery we’re getting from this movie. It looks like Spielberg and Jackson weren’t lying when they said they were going for a darker, noir-ish look to the movie. My only problem is that the look might be difficult to pull off well in 3D, due to the dimming effect of the glasses. But I guess if James Cameron was able to pull off the nighttime scenes in Pandora so beautifully in “Avatar”, there’s no reason Spielberg and Jackson shouldn’t be able to in “Tintin”.

Now I wish I’d said something like “Do we see any evidence that Spielberg and Abrams influence each other?” I blew it. I type 5 words, and drop a spoiler.
I like the animated lens flare. It’s all part of the photo-realistic toolbox, for me.

Ah! Lens flare, dear, good old lens flare. The way it’s been used and overuse, it should win an honorary Oscar someday for all the overtime it puts into its work.

Low the deceptively low key look of the image. It still looks overflowing with potent energy.
