Really nice poster for Dream House evaporates a famous Kubrick image in a ghostly dissolve. As puzzling as the poster may be, word is that SPOILERS in the trailer makes the mystery crystal clear — so even though you can find everything spelled out after the cut I won’t be watching it.
Last warning. This trailer reveals major SPOILERS.
I think Kate Winslet is one of the most overrated actors working today. She good at playing one role, that’s it. Not much range.

If somebody tells me that’s the same wall paper from The King’s Speech — and that gay porn flick — I’m gonna flip out.

Also, the poster on IMDb reveals a new PG-13 rating, when the MPAA originally decided it ought to be rated R. That was appealed, and the appeal lost, although the MPAA did offer up a list of details which could be cut in order to secure a PG-13, and it seems the studio has made the necessary changes.

I do agree that she is a great actress but I wouldn’t say she is underrated…she has ONE great film on her resume to date and she won the Oscar for that. Every other film of hers is pretty much mediocre, except Sunshine, but that was a big ensemble and she had a small role.
Meanwhile the slightly younger Kate Winslet has 4 bp-nominees (Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, Finding Neverland, The Reader) and a bunch of highly acclaimed critical darlings (Quills, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Children, Revolutionary Road) on her CV…and despite a considerably more impressive filmography, Rachel Weisz still became an Oscar-winner sooner, for the first try…so no, she is not underrated (IMO). Although I do give credit, because she did try to put her Oscar to good use : Wong Kar Wai, Darren Aronofsky, Peter Jackson, Alejandro Amenabar, Jim Sheridan…it’s not her fault that all these great directors let her down or at least failed to bring their A-game when they were working with her…although the jury is still out on ‘Dream House’…

i love so much rachel weisz, i think she should have abigger career, she is so charismatic and great actress, she is easily at the same level of kate winslet, i hope to see her in more big project…
she is kind of underestimated…

This is horrible. It only really makes me want to see the trailer even more. Like I really just want to click it now … it’s like a challenge

I’m sorry, but Sheridan really hasn’t done anything great since In America. This seems like it could have been really good, but I will predict the worst.

Missed Ryan’s comment about the trailer being spoiler-y…this may be the first time ever that I’ve been pretty much set on seeing a film (assuming Metascore isn’t in the red) only to have a trailer convince me not to. Seriously, who was the moron that okayed this?
ack, sorry
I’ll make the spoiler warning more clear, Bryce.
… it’s right there in the headline, but I’ll repeat it.

No point in watching this as a mystery thriller after that trailer. Suicidal marketing.

It’s reveals towards the last 20 minutes.

@phantom,
Right, that’s the one I was thinking of…
@Kim
Will it eventually be revealed who killed his family or will that remain a mystery?

Ryan,
I hope you’re right. Still, it seems like a solid chunk of movie goes by before the reveal shown in the trailer. Even if there’s more to it, knowing what the trailer reveals going in will taint the way I watch this film. That’s always true, but this feels more aggressively detrimental than most trailers.
Films like The Village, The Others, and Shutter Island have multiple twists and I think those trailers were right to keep it all under wraps.

The Ghost of Easter
The Jacket…actually Dream House looks like The Jacket mixed with The Number 23.

By the way, This trailer somehow reminds me of a movie starring Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley of which I can’t remember the title on the moment (must not have been a very good movie if I forgot about it’s existence untill now)….

Saw a rought cut last year, and no Watts is not the killer. She does however give a pretty bad performance with a wasted character. The other actors are ok (Craig and Weisz) but the movie is a huge waste of time. And yes, the trailer gives away the whole film. What a boneheaded thing to do.

It looks kind of twisty …and fun
—-Maybe there’s more to it, Charlie? Could the trailer possibly be leading us to jump to wrong conclusions?—
Ryan, I was thinking the same thing, untill I read the following on CinemaBlend.com:
—-This isn’t just supposition on my part, I’ve spoken to people this morning who are intimately aware of the nature of the production, who know the ins and outs of the film. They confirm that this trailer spoils pretty much the entire movie—-

By the way, I could see Naomi Watts pulling “a Julianne Moore” this year : lead nod for The Impossible, supporting nod for J.Edgar. I think she could emerge as the frontrunner in the supporting category this year…

I agree, if it weren’t for the top-notch cast and Jim Sheridan, this probably wouldn’t get the vote of confidence.
Based on the trailer, my !!!SPOILERy!!!
theory, that the lonely single woman next door (Watts) was secretly in love with the married man with kids (Craig) and took out her competition. Watts has to have a baity part, otherwise she probably wouldn’t accept a “rebound girl” type of role.

Damn.
I’m a devoted Naomi Watts fan and so was dying for a trailer to be released for this film. And now that we have one, it apparently gives away major spoilers for a film that looks like the mystery is a big part of the fun. And I already thought that plot summaries I’ve been reading for months now were spoiler-heavy. Shame.

shining and what lies beneath equals dream house. if sheridan wasn’t directing this i’d predict the worst.

REALLY wish I hadn’t watched this on another site before the word got out on how much it spoiled. I’ll say this: now I understand why the likes of Sheridan, Craig, Watts, and Weisz would be interested in this material.
I wish I could’ve learned there was more to the story when I actually saw the movie.
Maybe there’s more to it, Charlie? Could the trailer possibly be leading us to jump to wrong conclusions?
If not, what the hell are trailer editors thinking? It’s a preview to stir up interest. Not meant to be a Reader’s Digest Condensed pill we can swallow to cure us from the need to see the movie.
