Hitfix exclusive, the first photo of Tom Hanks in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The film, directed by Stephen Daldry, is a true tearjerker about a kid uncovering a mystery involving his father — a casualty of 9/11.

Yeah, I feel it’s a strong BP contender. And hopefully Best Director. Stephen Daldry definately deserves it!

It’s exactly that kind of prestige overload that gives me pause, Simon. Shipping News Syndrome.

“The story is about 9/11!”
That doesn’t mean it will win numerous awards. The only 9/11 movie to get awards recognition thus far is United 93.

I guess this movie is gonna be a really really strong player at the Awards Season… This and War Horse look like the frontrunners for me.

ELAIC looks terrific. It seems as if it could be Daldry’s best work yet.
As for Hugo, I’m currently reading the book on which it’s based and so far it’s terrific. The illustrations are just marvelous.
OT: One Day is at a 75 from the BFCA, and The Help has settled at a 91. Kind of low, isn’t it?

I just realized… with this and “Hugo” we’ll have two films in 2011 about children trying to uncover mysteries left for them by their dearly departed father.
