Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

Even if Ryan doesn’t get Oscar attention this year, no one can deny his last 12 months were incredible. Four entirely different roles.

to this point my at least my “year of gosling” comment was based completely on how many films he is in… I thought “crazy, sexy” was above average but not spectacular. i’m excited for “drive” but knowing refn’s work like i do, unless this is a huge departure and hollywood grab for him this film is going to be too obscure and artisitc for the academy (but i’m sure i’ll still love it)… as for “ides” i have my doubts. not because of the brilliant cast (including gosling) just because fo the director (clooney). I hope its awesome and i’m wrong but i wouldn’t bet on it yet given clooney’s short track record as a director.

Wood was pretty excellent in that clip. I could’ve sworn I read somewhere that the early word was that Wood was Oscar worthy, more of a contender than Tomei for this film. She very well could be.

The year of Gosling??? I don’t know, it’s only August.
He might get ignore again this time around. He was excellent in BLUE VAL last season. Oscars picked unknown Eisenberg/Franco over him.
The problem with Jude Law, he’s doesn’t know how to picked the right roles. The only memorable role (for me) was Cold Mountain.
Hopefully Contagion will do him good.

In “Crazy Stupid Love”, he is supporting actor.Unfortunately the words from early screenings for “The Ides of March” was not that great. And probably “Drive” won’t be huge hit.I’m really looking forward to seeing these films, but not pleased with so-called hype about Ryan.Sometimes hype is dangerous. I think Ryan Gosling has a lot of potential to be great character actor, not movie star.I hope he works steadily.Sorry for my English.

in difference to Jude Law in 2004 Gosling seems to have baity, bigger roles in baity films though. I assume nobody really believed Law to score a nod for Aviator where he was in for a couple of seconds and I heart huckabees never striked me as a serious contender and wasn’t he the narrator only in Lemony Snicket? everyone who is using this example should go and figure.
to me it rather seems that Gosling might have both Drive and TIOM as contenders and might get shared Best Actor notices for both by some critics but eventually his powerhouse might be the more “oscary” role (methinks TIOM)

this may be the “year of gosling” like 2004 when Jude Law had like 5 movies out in 6 months or something like that… but in my opinion, if Gosling does anything near as good as his brilliant turn in “blue valentine” i’ll be very happy!

I actually agree with GL, Wood is pretty mesmerizing here. I’ve always thought she has great potential and I think it’s really showing. But this scene wasn’t about The Gosling, I have faith he’ll carry this.

Gonna be a huge star this year. At least, I think he will. He has 3 films that will attract at least some kind of build in audience. He will score some female points with Crazy Stupid Love and maybe even with his cool looking persona in Drive of sensitivity and intensity.. Genre fanboys like myself could be set up to enjoy Drive if it fires on all cylinders. A great looking homage to the films of the 70s and 80s. Might even appeal to a couple of dads too. And Ides of March, which looks great could be the oscar contender that adults will eat up.

To be honest, I thought Wood stole the scene. He plays it off well, but at the end of the day when she leaves his office I want the camera to follow her character not stay on his.
