  3. Thanks for this post, Ryan. My favorites are the Lifeboat cameo and the second cameo in Rope. The one in To Catch a Thief always cracks me up, too.

  5. With the Rope cameo, it is only his appearance as the neon sign in the background. The initial highlighting of the man walking down the street isn’t Hitchcock.

  7. Perhaps he has marketed his own personality in the best possible way making his cameos events in themselves. His name is a brand for any thing that deals with suspense and has entered dictionary. Hitchcock had a flair for exploiting the dramatic value of contrast. Verloc, the secret agent of Sabotage, runs an ordinary cinema hall. The characters are average people with ordinary intelligence and subdued by ordinary fears. This realism makes the haunting occurrences more shocking.
