The Artist Trailer
Swiped from The Film Stage, who swiped it from Apple — The Artist theatrical trailer.
In my opinion, the trailer gives too much away. The audience should be as surprised as we were when it played in Cannes – to not know much about it except that it’s a black and white, silent film. It is one of the most enjoyable cinematic experiences of my adult life. That sounds like I’m overstating it, but really, it’s just wonderful. It is a film that will make the top of the top tens.

OK, so I won’t watch it, although I saw another trailer for this film earlier this year, which didn’t exactly give a lot away, as far as I’m aware. This isn’t the same trailer, no?

Sorry I had to watch bits and pieces of the trailer since I’ve heard nothing about the film. It looks very interesting. I just hope it plays in a theater near me.

The more I learn about this film the more excited I become about it. Its been such a long time since I’ve revisited so many of my old favorite silent films and their unique type of magic. I can’t wait to see this.

I saw best picture written all over The Artist ever since it premiered at Cannes. I can’t wait to see it and I just found out that I’ll be in New York during the film festival. Yay!

Yep, it’s the same exact trailer, just with English titles instead of French. Despite how much it gives away, I still can’t wait to see it — probably my most anticipated film of the year.

I have to admit that I liked it more than F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise…. But I always had trouble with the abrupt shift in tone of that film….

I think that, fortunately for The Artist, its release comes in an era when audiences will be more receptive to a look back at silent film than was the case for Singin’ in the Rain, which came out in the 50s when audiences were more interested in the new modernity than in inventive films about the Roaring 20s.

The cinematography looks amazing in this trailer. On my “MUST SEE” list. Doesn’t hurt that the film won “Best Actor” at Cannes, and that Sasha has highly recommended it. The film should be an Oscar contender, n’est ce pas?

I’m so sick of trailers that go beyond teasing and tempting the audience and give away the whole story. Not that you didn’t warn us, Sasha.
Frankly, I think this looks cutesy and gimmicky and vaguely annoying. I have a low tolerance for nostalgia porn. And it bugs me that 99% of people who go to this movie would never consider sitting through a Rene Clair or Ernst Lubitsch film. But I’m still very curious to see it, because I know how much positive reaction it has garnered, and I hope I am happily surprised and proved wrong.

Aren’t there rules for not having silent films in the best picture category? If they insist on doing so, then put it in foreign language film, say, as France’s official entry.

Too true. The car fire in CRASH. The “Nearer My God to Thee” sequence in TITANIC. The part in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE where I turned it off and mixed myself a big drink. Classic moments.

I cried out of sheer nostalgia. The Artists is on my top 10 for this Fall / Oscar season and that says a lot for a huge Oscar buff that basically sees everything in contention.
