She may not care if she appears attractive, but Lisbeth certainly cares about her grooming. Maybe if people would wait to see the film, instead of judging it because of its “inherent American-ness”.

She actaully does care about her looks. In the third film, swedish version of course, we actually see Salander getting her hair done before she goes to the court room (is a huge mohawk style, the one you see on the cover of the DVD release). She also does a little bit of “gothic” or “emo” make up in her left eye, if I’m not mistaken.

I don’t understand why she has a million hairstyles in just this one movie. Lisbeth Salander spends next to zero time on her daily grooming. I don’t see her taking the time to change her hair style just like I don’t see her doing a nudie poster, she will beat the sh it out of anyone who asked her to play Barbie doll. I know Fincher wants to make this different enough from the original to justify the remake in such a short period of time but I’m not sure he really understands the character.
You guys, please remember these are not stills from the movie. It’s a publicity fashion shoot for the Sunday magazine of a French newspaper.
I see your point though, Jerry. Obviously Lisbeth doesn’t care how she looks. Her whole image, totally unplanned and unselfconscious. Those piercings must be the result of some unexplained stapler accident.
Seriously, even a low-maintenance girl has to get have her hair cut off every few weeks, right?
You’re not sure Fincher really understands the character? I’m not sure you (or me, or any guy) really understands how much is involved for any girls to look the way they do. In my experience, they put some thought, time and effort into their appearance.
Not to spoil the illusion, but do you know what happens to piercings without daily high-maintenance hygiene? They get infected. It’s not a splash-and-dash choice a girl would make who has no patience for personal grooming.

Me and my old Ma saw the trailer before Ides today too. So I thought I’d ask her how it looked, for an unbiased opinion, and she said it looked like a good movie. And then later in the day, I asked her again which of the trailers we saw (and we saw a lot including TTSS and The Descendants), did she think she might want to see, the first one she said was “Craig’s movie.” I dunno why it does nothing for me, but you guys win. :p
