Both Ms. Yeoh and Mr. Thewlis deserve AMPAS nods for this one. Ms. Yeoh delivers a very assured performance. I liked it. But will they get enough of the PR machine though?
I think it’s weird that you haven’t watched the film yet,Sasha. I mean like,it was premiered at Toronto, and you were there, and you didn’t watch it. After the AFI screening, still you haven’t seen it. So,it is a little suspicious why you haven’t watched the film yet.
i cant wait to see the film, i would say that Yeoh’s potrayal Syu Ki better than Streep’s potrayal tatcher
I dont understand why every review wrote that Yeoh’s performance is a little bit stiff. The problem is most of these reviewers do not really know Aung San Suu Kyi. I, who is from South East Asian, do know her( I’ve watched so many videos about her,her tv interview) and all I can say is Yeoh’s portrayal of Daw Aung is superb. She looks like her,she walks like her,she speaks like her. What else do we need? Just because this film do not involve any of Hollywod biggest names,it doesn’t mean that it’s not a good movie.
The film suffers a bit from not being willing to show many flaws in the protagonist and Yeoh’s restrained performance. I think she was trying to respect the living person she was portraying but it’s hard dramatically to portray a saint for two hours.
Nevertheless, I found the film rewarding and loved the scenes between Yeoh and Thewlis. At least it tells a story worth telling. When I was on line at screenings in Toronto I heard several people say one of their favorites films at the festival was The Lady.

The Freemasons methinks. Or it could be the Jews.
Someone is paying off the blogs to keep it out of discussion. It’s become quite apparent this year that many films are not getting the press they should be getting from ANY of the blogs. Not really but some films are suspiciously absent from all of the blogs and I don’t understand it.

Huh? Do you think it’s the job of the blogs to promote all of the films up for contention? Or just your favorites? I haven’t yet seen The Lady.
Don’t worry, A.J.
We’ll continue to post any significant, meaningful items we can find about The Lady — until somebody pays us enough to quit!
Such a shame the film is not being seriously considered for major awards.
I have absolutely no trust in Besson but Yeoh and Thewlis both look extremely impressive. With a bigger studio and PR machine behind the film, they would certainly have had a chance to be in the discussion.
David Thewlis is terrific in this film. It’s so rare he gets to play a love interest.
