SCOOOOTT, you won!
Any group that has the balls not to vote Streep because she is simply Streep get my vote!!!! Bravo!
This is a vapid slate. It’s like a foreshadowing nightmare of the coming months.
Pedantic note – the last name of the director of Drive is Winding Refn, not just Refn – no dash between the two names, but it is similar to Daniel Day-Lewis or Sasha Baron Cohen.
Very happy for Brit Marling… she was a remarkable presence in Another Earth. A unique and memorable character which I believe she also co-wrote.
Finally! Some HP love!
Winner: Nick Nolte, WARRIOR
I would totally move to San Diego right now if I could afford it. LOVE YOU GUYS. 🙂 *big hug*
Awesome win for Nick Nolte! I’m glad he’s starting to pick up steam again, it’s well earned praise.
@FilmFatale – I disagree with your assessment of Brooks’ performance. I think his was an interesting and nuanced performance. His character was prepared to be ruthless, but I don’t think he revelled in those actions. *SPOILER* I would point to the scene in the garage with Bryan Cranston’s character and the aftermath of that, where you see Bernie Rose siting in his opulent but somehow souless house reflecting on his actions. I think it weighed on him heavily. If he were your typical one-dimensional villain he would have moved on immediately by getting drunk/laid/doped up/planning to blow up the world while stroking a white cat in his underground lair.
To tell you the truth, I´m happy for Scott. 🙂
I’m so happy for Nolte 🙂
Yeah! HP72! I am so happy for it to win ensemble, and yeah for Nick Nolte he was really good in warrior!
i mean have u seen the winners?
are they asssholes?
Sorry Ryman — wrong again. Brooks has a one-dimensional character played with gusto, a construct of smirking evil — not real, not relatable. And Nolte is miles away from Rocky — bizarre analogy, frankly. You really need to see Warrior again and pay attention this time to his scene on Joel Edgerton’s lawn, which is a knockout, then come back and tell me it is derivative of anything.
Brit Marling gives one of the best female performances of the year in Another Earth. She is deserving. Awesome Director choice too.
Woody!
Scott?? where are you? This could be your only shining hour this season!;) HP awarded best ensemble by San Diego…wow…:)
The reason why I didn’t think Nick Nolte was worthy of the award is because he’s an exact rip-off of Micky from the Rocky. Same voice, accent, everything. The only difference was the father figure which didn’t have much effect because it barely shows him throughout the movie except the beginning. Compared to Albert Brooks, Nolte is amateur in that film.
While I loved Brit Marling in Another Earth, she doesn’t deserve to win any critics awards for it. I can’t really take this list seriously because of that.
I rather like it when a particular group of critics goes out on a limb to reward something fresh. Harry Potter deserves its wins . . . and I think the individual guilds will be soon chosing the film as a contender in minor categories.
As for San Diego FC? I respect your daring choices. Nick Nolte is one of our finest actors.
I still think many of these groups are missing the boat when it comes to Vanessa Redgrave. I’m convinced they haven’t even seen “Coriolanus” yet. When the film goes into wider release, Redgrave should be a lock for a nomination. Didn’t the Academy just honor her for her body of work in England? I think the BAFTA award is hers; would be shocked if they didn’t award it to her.
Bring on the Globes and the BAFTAs!
This year is turning into a great horse race with many viable contenders. I’ve never been so interested in an Oscar year in a very long time.
Sorry Ryman — Nolte was superb and true in Warrior, exactly why there was awards speculation for him when the film was release. So glad to see it come to fruition.
Glad for Michael Shannon and Nick Nolte. Turned off by wins for Brit Marling and Beginners for Editing – decent jobs, yes, but far from the best of the year. They snubbed Michael Fassbender though, so I can’t take them seriously. Kk, this can be the last time I whinge about that…for a while…
Hazza P gets two good wins, though. Hope that pleases Scott. Probably not though. Too many pretentious films like Warrior and Moneyball which didn’t top the box office receiving awards here. His equally intelligent friends won’t be happy either.
@The Great Dane, the didn’t vote for Albert Brooks and he was snubbed by the SAGs.
BEST ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE –
Winner: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2

Nice!
Last line, I meant: “no one else has nominated HER”
With some of these winners, it’s almost like they voted for everyone who got snubbed by SAG just to prove a point…
I haven’t seen ANOTHER EARTH, but WEIRD choice – considering no one else has nominated for…
Yay for Harry Potter!
Nick Nolte for Warrior? Ew…
