Two more months of this craziness! And I love it! “The trick is not minding.” 🙂
Well Maries, I assume I’m talking to the same person posting under different names half the time, especially when I get double teamed in fights, because people can post with just an email confirmation. I’m me. I’ve been me and I have my lj account as my “website” so people will know that it is me. Other than that there’s not a lot we can do. We just have to hope the moderators cut the wheat from the chaff. Unless I recognize a name from years of posting here, I usually don’t register whose comments were whose.
maybe, Marie, you should choose a different name
Bharat, the shortlist of nine for the Foreign-language Film category only comes out a week to 10 days before the nominations are announced. Figure around the 15th-17th of January this time around.
No offense to the other Marie that posts here but I just wanted to separate us and our opinions. I don’t want to come across as insulting everything you say.
Sorry for the off-topic comment. Have they decided on who is going to announce the nominations yet? I really hope the Academy includes HP, Tree of Life, Moneyball, In the Land of Blood & Honey, The Dangerous Method, War Horse, Shame, and The Girl with the Dragont Tattoo in their lineup of some nominations in different categories. Though I have to face the fact that The Artist, The Descendants, and Drive seem to be the three top contenders this year.
Re-posting this from the older entry about the Womens Film Critics Circle Awards because this applies to a bunch of comments and entries on this site. I hope Antoinette reads this. I just wanted to clear my name of maligning and mislabeling because it might cause problems in the future. I have very different opinions than the other Marie that posts here.
“There are two Marie’s posting at this site. Many posters use the same name or have the same name.
I didn’t make that comment about Daryl Hannah being dead because that is in poor taste. I would never say something like that. I don’t want people associating me with what they label as the worst comments on Awardsdaily. Actually, I have read far worse.
I disagree with this list but that is a rant I don’t want to get into. I can get into long tirades about this and there is such a slippery-slope argument when it comes to discussing appropriate or respectable depictions of women in film.”
Thank you Academy! Finally, a timeframe that makes sense. I think Jan.24th is the appropriate date to announce the nominations considering the extra early timing of the precursors created a mess. It shows that the various requests and protests from members of the film community surrounding the timeline of that awards race this year have been effective. I am so delighted that the nominations have been postponed to an appropriate date. Now they have the opportunity to properly evaluate all of the movies including the December releases/campaigns as well as balance out the inconsistent snubs/inclusions.
This is great news and I like this schedule. I can’t wait until Jan.24th. I hope that BAFTA’s and PGA/WGA will be game-changers which will have some influence over The Oscar nominations. Next year, I hope the rest of the precursors follow suit with this timeframe to announce their nominees at the end of Dec or beginning of Jan if the Academy makes the choice to announce their picks around Jan.24th!
Does anyone know when the foreign language shortlists will be available?
