The shot from Drive where he’s wearing the stunt mask at the doorway has to be one of the most indelible images of the year, but I don’t think it was in this particular montage.
Hey, Ryman! We get it! There WERE a lot of action/horror/thriller films in 2011. It doesn’t make your montage any better to just do rock/hip hop and show a bunch of clips from those movies.
Like, I don’t believe there’s one Melancholia, one Tree of Life, or one Shame clip in the entire thing. Snore.
It would be nice if everyone wasn’t trying to get in on this end of the year montage fad, and that it would just be left to the Matt Shapiros’, Gen Ips’, and Kees van What’shisnames’ of the world.
Comments are welcome as long as they are not abusive. We do not moderate but we will delete and ban your IP. We really don't tolerate any bad behavior and we watch the comments closely. Moreover, you should think twice anyway before you say something nasty to anyone on any blog. While it might feel good for a couple of seconds it only reveals you as a coward, sorry to say. Recently, I was lucky enough to be invited on NPR to talk about the adapted screenplay race. It surprised host Rachel Martin that the screenplay race, it turned out, wasn’t so much about the individual screenplays as it was about the Best Picture category. This is probably the hardest thing …
Art and entertainment hover conspicuously like twins at a barn dance: which one do you pick? Can you even tell the difference between them? Do you pick the prettier of the two, or the one that’s more interesting to talk to? As films become more and more about the target …
The last time a film won the Best Picture Musical Comedy at the Golden Globes then went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director was in 1968. The film was Oliver! Despite it being 1968, one of the most tumultuous periods of history for the US, …
It takes a lot to shake the tree of discontent where the Oscars are concerned. Most film critics and media writers feel it’s borderline irresponsible to even care about such a silly contest, let alone write about it. The Oscars are then left to the hardcore fans of the Oscars, …
THEATRICAL MOTION PICTURES Best Male Actor in a Leading Role ★ Jean Dujardin, The Artist Best Female Actor in a Leading Role ★ Viola Davis, The Help Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role ★ Christopher Plummer, Beginners Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role ★ Octavia Spencer, The Help …
Right about now, Harvey Weinstein is looking like the King of the World. For the second year in a row, he’s carried a Best Picture winner through to victory. The first film required more work, as The Social Network was creaming The King’s Speech at every major critics award in …
There were many different directions the Oscar race for 2011 could have gone but didn’t. They could have honored Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is better than at least five of the current Best Picture nominees, and the darkest of its long and fruitful series. They could have …
The actors will chime in with their favorites this Sunday when the Screen Actors Guild awards unfurl. We can expect little surprises, I’m guessing, as the buzz for some contenders simply overwhelms the competition. It feels like a natural progression towards Oscar, this. And much will be decided. For …
It’s really hard, isn’t it, to defend, spend time on, invest any emotion on an institution that could continually, and repeatedly, up to and including this year, make such ridiculous choices when the better films are staring them right in the face. Blame the public too, blame the critics especially, …
If I could call back All those days of yesteryear I would never grow old And I’d never be poor But darlin, those days are gone. Stop dreaming And live on in the future But darling, don’t look back And so it was with this that the 2011 Oscar race …
i love that shot from drive. so intense.
It´s a shame that there is no Steve McQueen’s Shame frames.

Everybody loves Drive!!

I didn’t make the montage you idiot. I just gave the link to the editor. <_<
