Wonderful featurette. This ties “Tree of Life” as my favorite films of the year. Bold, profound, intense, and heartbreaking film. Stellar performances all around. Even the music directly lifted off Zimmer’s “Journey to the Line” was extremely effective as well. Thank you for posting, Ryan.
Sure wish I could see this.
It’s funny. I came out of this movie thinking “wow, that was a triumph of style over content”, and yet it has stayed with me longer than any other film I have seen this year (besides Margin Call). I think it is a difficult film to watch and love, a little too close to home as they say. I am certainly not a sex addict like the lead character but I can identify with the isolation. I don’t think Shame will figure largely in the Oscar race as it is too problematic for most AMPAS members (if they thought Brokeback was tough, this is going to kill them). But I think that Shame will age well and hopefully will be appreciated by more discerning viewers in years to come.
I saw this film and Young Adult within three days of each other and I cannot think of one of the films without thinking of the other. Each one deals with two people who are quite lonely as well as addicts (alcohol, sex). I kind of see them as companion pieces to each other, even though Young Adult is very darkly comedic and Shame is very dark, dramatic and slightly disturbing. I hope Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan get the recognition they deserve for these performances.
