The Artist did not even miss here. It is everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
But anyways, its been The Artist since Cannes.
Why can’t the Oscars be like this? And I love their lineup, but can someone please explain to me why movies that were eligible to last year’s Academy Awards are only now appearing here? Weren’t they eligible before?
Oh my god, those nominations for Tracy Wright and Trigger make me so happy!
Well deserved.
I like how anything foreign is automatically tagged “Independent”. And by like I mean “notice”.
Chlo-what the frak?
I now officially hate The Artist. Congratulations, self-congratulatory film community!
why movies that were eligible to last year’s Academy Awards are only now appearing here? Weren’t they eligible before?
Simply a matter of different cutoff dates for theatrical premieres. The FLF dates for Oscar are out of sync from the 12-month calendar year cycle.
It’s the same reason why we see Uncle Boonmee and Incendies and Poetry appearing on lots of critics lists this year — even though many of us had them on last year’s lists — these late appearance go by the year when critics and voters were finally able to see the movie. Not the year it was produced.
(The Hurt Locker in fact was a 2008 movie and was eligible in two different years — nominated for Spirit Awards and the Oscars in consecutive years)
That’s the only actor nominated for A Separation? Whatever…
But still, 13 ASSASSINS!! I was beginning to expect that it wasn’t going to show up anywhere.
Always the most interesting awards of the season: Melancholia, The Guard, Submarine, John C. Reilly for Terri (I loved his performance in that), Tinker Tailor for Best Ensemble (how the SAG didn’t recognize that is beyond me)…well done as always, Chlotrudis Awards.
Happy for everything for Another Year,Javier Bardem and Kristen Scott Thomas.
Happy to see Pariah, Martha Marcy and A Separation scoring multiple nods.
At least they didn’t nominate The Artist for screenplay, LOL.
Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the answer Ryan!
I love the “Weekend” love (specially acting honors for both leads instead of just Cullen). Finally they nominated the actual openly gay actor playing the gay role. Chris New’s performance was equally moving and yet the straight actor is the one reaping the nominations. (although admittingly, the movie focuses more on Tom Cullen’s character)
I can’t understand for the life of me how Olivia Colman keep getting snubbed. She gave one of the best performance of the year for Tyrannosaur.
Weekend, Another Year, Pariah, Kristin Scott Thomas… these are some nominations I can get behind.
This bunch always comes up with an interesting mix.
I’m glad to see Poetry & Weekend up there and many of the others.
@Markie27 – Tyrannosaur is one of those movies that didn’t get a full theatrical release in 2011. We’re still waiting for it to play in most markets, so we pushed it to 2012. You very well might see a nomination for Olivia Coleman next year. I’ll certainly watch out for her now that you’ve mentioned it!

any organization praising Weekend gets praise from me. I adore that film.
