In Celebration of Woody and Max
I made a quickie video with Woody Allen — set to Allo Darlin’s Woody Allen – I snagged the Woody Allen clips from YouTube. In Celebration of Woody Allen and Max Von Sydow in the same Oscar race. The quality is terrible – my apologies. Am trying a Quicktime version which might be better.

I forgot how much I loooooove Manhattan Murder Mystery.
I almost punched my computer screen when dragon tattoo wasnt nominated for BP! I wont get over this snub for a long long time!

My life just flashed by.
Cool video! And it’s wonderful to have in the same race Sydow and Plummer.

grand reopening soon
Most underappreciated Woody – Interiors
Most overappreciated Woody – Crimes and Misdemeanors
Most deserved Woody Oscar nod – Manhattan
Least deserved Woody Oscar nod – Deconstructing Harry
Should have been nominated Woody – Sleeper
Could have lived without nominated Woody – Mighty Aphrodite
Should have won Oscar nominated Woody directed performance – Geraldine Page, Interiors
Should have been nominated Woody directed performance – Corey Stoll, Midnight in Paris
woody will never be underappreciated, he is the most nominated writer in film history. don’t try to paint this as an ‘underdog’ story.
The worst director nominee this year is Woody Allen. They robbed Spielberg for Tintin.
But meanwhile he became most nominated director-producer of all time with 7 nominations. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take anger management courses, Jake. You have no control over it.
I think it’s become trendy to hate Woody Allen this awards season, or at least Midnight in Paris. Well you know what? I enjoyed it. It’s not a masterpiece but none of these nominees are anyway. And can we all stop pretending that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is this deep exploration of the human condition just because David Fincher put his name on it? It’s a stupid whodunnit, no better than The Da Vinci Code (Actually, it’s almost as badly written as that one.)
Whatever, I just wanted to say I loved the video, Sasha. Big fan of Allo Darlin. Well done.
Noah, I’m so glad to hear you like them. I stumbled upon them one day on itunes and I just love them. I listen to that whole record all of the time. But I strongly disagree with you about Dragon Tattoo – whatever you’re accusing it of is there because of the source material. What Fincher did to that, well, sadly it will take years before people are able to see it for what it really is. THere is so much butt hurt about it being a remake and the Swedish version this or that. And I get it. I understand that it’s a Swedish story and a Swedish author and there’s some ownership there. But I figure the story has been upended enough and I can appreciate what Fincher did with it, just as I appreciate what Scorsese did with The Departed. It was one of the year’s best and most vivid films….that’s just all there is to it. Very few of the films in the Oscar race will last a second past this year. I think one or two might and that’s it.
They robbed Spielberg for Tintin.
HUH? Uh….wow, really dude?
Midnight in Paris isn’t more special than most Woody Allen films. It’s jsut getting recognition because it surprised everyone by making a lot of money. The Oscars are a popularity contest and Allen knows this better than anyone, which is why he has no respect for them.
Watching the Supporting Actor nominees make my heart sink… Brannagh, Plummer, Von Sydow & Nolte with chances of losing all of them a 1st Oscar to Jonah Hill (with all my respects). I mean, wow.
If i was Hill I surely would be in ecstasy to have those fellow nominees and knowing Rickman, Brooks, Fiennes, Pitt, Clooney and many others were left out in his favor. Hopefully in coming works, he’ll live up to the confidence the AMPARS showed on him.
Max Von Sydow so deserved the Oscar nomination. Hope he wins this. Or Mr. Plummer for that matter.
Woody Allen’s Oscars as a director:
1 – Annie Hall (1977)
Times he has been nominated as a director:
6
Woody Allen’s Oscars as a writer:
2 – Annie Hall and Hannah an Her Sisters (1977 and 1986)
Times he has been nominated as a writer:
13
He makes one movie a year, but still he has only won in two different years. The last time he won, the screenplay for Hannah and Her Sisters was 26 years ago. In short, he has a similar nominations/wins proportion as Meryl Streep. Why shouldn’t he win a second Oscar as a director? Spielberg has two, Eastwood has two. I think he’s on par with them.
Well, this was terrific. Thank you, Sasha.
“…Very few of the films in the Oscar race will last a second past this year. I think one or two might and that’s it.”
Hugo
A Separation
Moneyball
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Midnight in Paris
The Tree of Life
Shame
At least these 7 !
Sorry, I had to include “Shame,” even though it isn’t a player with Oscar.
