I’m so sick of any and everybody regularly mentioned in the last few months of awards, so please Saturn voters, choose the excellent Dominic Cooper for The Devil’s Double, criminally underrated for that performance.

God bless you, Saturn Awards
I mean, seriously! Saturn’s Best Actress lineup > Oscar’s Best Actress lineup, imho.
Asa Butterfield
I said this on Twitter, I love the Saturn Awards for really embracing genre fare. And they even nominate things that aren’t exactly that genre. A Dangerous Method? But totally agree that their Best Actress lineup is 100x better than the Oscar lineup.
How does Drive not show up anywhere but somehow The Lincoln Lawyer is an action movie?
Imagine THIS is what it comes to great performances like Shannon and Chastain in TAKE SHELTER, both gals in MELANCHOLIA, everyone in A DANGEROUS METHOD can’t get serious awards’ buzz but must look to the Saturn Awards. Not not demean the Saturn voters of course, but these people shouldn’t just be nominated for good work in sci-fi themed films, they should be rewarded for good work. Period
A terribly solid list of nominees here, the only thing I could possibly criticise is the lack of Helen McCrory (HUGO’s beacon) and the CONTAGION actors. Other than that, goodness all-round.
First few things I noticed:
HORROR/THRILLER FILM: “The Thing”
FANTASY FILM: “Immortals”
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Harrison Ford, “Cowboys and Aliens”
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Emma Watson, “Harry Potter”
>Yeah, can’t take this venue too seriously.
One nomination for Hanna? Outrageous!
Hugo misplaced in “Fantasy” yet again.
Tintin got 6 nomiations.
I still can not believe it was not nominated for Oscar.
Maybe it’s just me, but this seems to be an unusually strong list this year for the Saturns, despite a couple of odd omissions (Drive missing everywhere, Dragon Tattoo missing in editing and score).
Lots of well-deserved love for Rise/Apes and the best actress race is very good. Shannon should walk away with actor, but, like @Gregoire, I’m glad to see Dominic Cooper recognized for a good performance despite being surrounded by an abysmal film. (some people get Oscars for doing just that).
Elite Squad: The Enemy Within would have been a nice addition to International Film.
Um… Isn’t this the place where we films like Hanna and Drive world be able to find nominations???
Apart from that they do mention Melancholia and A Dangerous Merhod so can’t be too angry I suppose. I echo an earlier comment, Contagion actors should be recognised.
How cool are the Saturn Awards?!

Um… where’s Source Code?
^
Source Code. Baffling absence. Love that movie. Underappreciated.
No costume design nomination for Immortals and Eiko Ishioka saddens me.
The Saturn Awards always baffle me, both in their choices, and in their concepts of genre.
That said, in my opinion Harrison Ford was the saving grace of Cowboys & Aliens, so I’ll go with that. Only because Alan Rickman, Andy Serkis amd Stanely Tucci are there too.
Where is Best Actor Nominees Michael Fassbender for X-Men: First Class?
Hows Midnight in Paris a fantasy film
The Saturn’s are always great…now obviously not the entire lineup was deserving of Oscar recognition but there’s a lot here that are the sort the Academy should be recognizing if they want to be relevant. And it’s not like Twilight is anywhere in sight and there’s hardly a trace of Transformers.
Oh, and it probably goes without saying but that is the sort of recognition the Potter finale was worthy of (with the exception of perhaps supporting actress and editing)
“Hows Midnight in Paris a fantasy film”
In the same way Field of Dreams is, or Somewhere in Time. The plot turns on Time Travel that isn’t explained by some piece of sci-fi gadgetry, a la Star Trek; it’s just there. Hence, fantasy!
Glad to see Midnight in Paris here. But where’s Source Code and why the lack of nominations for X-men First Class. I would have liked to see Michael Fassbender for best actor. I thought he was great as Magneto! The Guard, Drive and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy would also have been worthy of some nominations.
i´m verry happy to see Rooney Mara and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (it´s my favorite movie and performances i see this year) and The Muppets , but its a shame forget Fassbender, Drive or Ryan Gosling, and why so many people like Rise of the Planet of the Apes!
How can Insidious, definitely one of the best horror films of the year, be ignored? That movie was scary as hell.
Too mainstream for a line-up… the “highest profile” one in years…
