The Avengers assemble in new trailer

It’s the 2nd of Disney’s 3-pronged box-office assault on Spring — John Carter (Mar 9), The Avengers (May 4), Brave (June 22). The Avengers ranked #12 yesterday’s poll of the year’s most anticipated movies.

  3. Hahaha that metallic monster was like WTF! out of the blue. I almost heard Whedon shout FUCK YEA when I saw that thing.

This should be a fun time at the movies. Loved the Hulk-saving-Iron Man bit.

  8. god damn son, where you are entitled to have your own opinion, maybe you should use insults a grown up would use. cause what you just said makes you one of those 11 year olds that this you claim this movie is for! grow up!

  9. Can that GDS comment be removed. It’s vile and offensive and I’m really glad this GDS isn’t here because I’m incredibly capable of cleaning that mouth up.

  10. menyc,

I’m leaving that comment up. If it had been directed at anyone else — any other reader, any filmmaker — then we would have deleted it immediately. But it bounced right off me because it’s so 3rd-grader hysterical.

Too many people always crying about why Sasha and I are so hard-ass about deleting comments. Maybe it’s because nobody ever sees how bad the deleted comments can get. GDS is a lame example.

This GDS person is most likely from Jeff Wells’ site. I was there yesterday and possibly ruffled a few feathers. So some sputtering hothead has come here to hound me.

This is the first comment ever seen at AD by GDS and it will be his last. He was banned as soon as the comment appeared yesterday. Doesn’t matter if the follow-up comment he tried to make was “David Fincher is my Lord and Savior.” — He’s gone. Anything he ever tries to write will go directly in the trash bin, vanish without a trace, bypass moderation altogether, so neither Sasha nor I have to consider any of his future opinions on a case-by-case basis. It’s automatic. We won’t be bothered by him anymore and neither will anyone else here.

One of the perks of being King of the F*gs is my power to permanently destroy shrimp-dick closet-case homophobes by tapping my fabulous royal scepter on the ban button.

(By the way, everybody here knows I don’t care if I ever see Avatar again. It was fun to watch the night it premiered, as a Christmas Day circus ride. Not ashamed to say I had fun that night. Not afraid to say the fun didn’t last.)

  11. It’s funny. I had every intention to watch Avatar again after I saw it the first time. Had a blast. But the next day, I completely lost interest.

Back on topic: the fact that Joss Whedon (one of comic book’s best) is involved with this to such a high degree gives me hope that it won’t be too lame. The comic book geek in me is all giddy.

  12. Looks kinda cool. 15 years ago this would’ve been my most anticipated film of 2012 but now I’ll simply settle for seeing it. Nothing will topple The Hobbit for my most anticipated of the year. After that it’s what some might consider the Oscar contenders: Django Unchained, The Master, The Great Gatsby, Lincoln, etc.

Also, props to Ryan for his response to the ridiculous comment made.

  13. I’m feeling that The Hobbit ain’t coming anywhere close to Best Picture this year or next. The Avengers won’t either, but probably some technicals are out of question, specially the sound cathegories and visual effects.

The geek film that actually has a good shot at BP is The Dark Knight Rises. But The Hobbit is going to be different in tone and it has the huge handicap of being the prequel of a trilogy that earned 17 Oscars… even if it’s made by the same team (but after Guillermo del Toro declined the project when he was already involved).

  14. Renners definitely got best supporting actor in the bag. After the crappy picks they had for supporting this year, minus nolte. He should win since their favorite this year was Plummer. Can we say career award.
