interesting how the bug-up-the-butt some people carry around about The Artist causes their ass to itch no matter what we post.
This time last year I was discovering two of the best movies of 2011 that the Academy had no chance of noticing — I Saw the Devil and 13 Assassins.
we were happy to spread the word about those movies then, and happy to do the same for The Raid now.
What makes this year’s small gang of nagging babies different from last year’s is that nobody last year was annoying enough to cry about The King’s Speech whenever I mentioned 13 Assassins.
For those readers who think I’m hung up on something I can’t get over — take a look at your own behavior once in a while, and ask yourself honestly: Who can’t get over what?

I dunno. Maybe it’s about the words like “will never notice, nor should we expect them too, and neither should we care.” or emphasizing with every occasion that the AMPAS is a group that consists mostly of white males. Things like that you know.
I thought this message was about an upcoming movie you are excited about. But I guess I’m not the only one with a bug-up-the-but, because here I see a commenct that’s basically saying – “The Academy doesn’t know movies and are going to ignore a lot of them this year. This one is just the begining.”
I’m not saying that this is not the truth, but the least you could do is loose the trailer and directly write what you mean. That would be a lot more honest IMHO.

violence made exciting by close ups of guns blowing people’s brains with some clever editing and score, but zero story?
The Raid has already attracted terrific distribution deals all around the world — the rights were snatched up in a bidding war after it won The Audience Award at TIFF a few months ago.

I wonder how many people said that about Taxi Driver.
Maybe it’s about the words like “will never notice, nor should we expect them too, and neither should we care.”
Do you think the Academy will notice this movie? Do you think we should expect them to? Do you think I care? If your answers are No, No, No, then what are you nagging about?
or emphasizing with every occasion that the AMPAS is a group that consists mostly of white males.
where do you see that? Where the fuck have I ever said that, Koleś? I never write that. Go find someplace where I’ve said that. You cannot.
And besides, a movie like The Raid is going to be adored by mostly White Males in the USA… so what’s your point again? Or are you just wanting an excuse to whine this morning?
the least you could do is loose the trailer and directly write what you mean.
I wrote exactly what I meant. How about stop trying to read between the lines of a very straightforward statement.
This is the peak month of Oscar season, and I’m getting accused lately of “advocating for movies you like.” I’m offering this trailer even though I know it’s completely unrelated to any Oscar conversation — because it’s a hot trailer that just dropped, and I’m not going to ignore a movie just because it doesn’t fit the Oscar mold.
I thought this message was about …blah blah blah…
Stop thinking. You’re not very good at it.

Oof Ryan, I don’t know if comparing The Raid to Taxi Driver is the right move to make your point. I’m sure you’ve seen the trailer for Taxi Driver, it was anything but violence and murder all over the floor like The Raid here.
That said though, this is one of the films I regret not seeing at TIFF, the Midnight Madness crowd apparently tore the roof off when it finished and I heard nothing but great things about it from people who’ve seen it. There’s already a sequel in the works and a US-remake I believe, that’s how insanely popular it became.
I’m not comparing the trailer for Taxi Driver to the trailer for The Raid. What’s the point of that?
I’m saying “brains blown out” doesn’t make me think: “straight to DVD!”

Ah ok, gotcha. I figured you were talking about the trailers because Tufas’ comment came directly from The Raid’s trailer which pretty much did show violence only, while Taxi Driver had that one scene..
But yeah, this is definitely not “straight to DVD” stuff.

Whoa, man, I’m very proud with this one because I’m Indonesian. Yes, ‘The Raid’ is kind of eclectic choice for violence. The movie is that great, I watched it back in November 2011 in Jakarta at iNAFFF and totally blown away. You guys will like it.

It looks very interesting stylistically, but I find it difficult to get excited over a trailer that is literally just shot after shot of people brutally killing each other. It doesn’t seem like a very creative approach to me. Hearing about audience reactions, though, I do want to see it!

What a time-saver! I’ll keep posting trailers so you’ll never need to watch another movie ever again. You’re welcome.
wow. that looks excellent. hope it pops up near me.
The Grey already came out.
I remember when you guys posted about this in September. I was absolutely blown away by it then and I’m just as blown away now.
Does anyone know when this might be available for people to see here in the states? (either in theaters or on DVD?)
indonesial
Tclaw: It’s coming to theaters in March
I hate it when the other guy’s machete is sharper than my martial arts skills. I really really hate it when people misuse the word “great”
