Sonnenfield, Jones, and Brolin put the Coens on my mind.
A dream: Will Smith wins Oscar by leading a Joel&Ethan Coen dark comedy.

I guess that reveals how little I have to say about MIB3… Love the dynamic shown between Smith and Brolin, could not be less interested in the sci-fi action dressing. Perfect late May matinee material I guess.
It looks fun but I’m worried. The production problems are well documented, and any big Hollywood movie that starts filming without a completed script is bound for disaster. Remember Pirates of the Caribbean 3?

“any big Hollywood movie that starts filming without a completed script is bound for disaster. Remember Pirates of the Caribbean 3?”
Did you see the box office receipts for Pirates 3? a bad movie does not automatically mean financial disaster. I won’t be surprised if this became the highest grossing movie in the franchise. Mark my words.

To be fair, Noah never said it’d be a FINANCIAL disaster; just a disaster in general. Quality wise, I’m inclined to agree with him.

The concept looks like something out of the nineties. It’s a franchise trying to grab onto some relevancy. It should of reinvented itself a lot more with retaining the original humor/charm. But instead it looks dull and uninspired… much like The Amazing Spiderman does.

Definitely the kind of movie which induces me to vomit.
Certainly won’t be spending my hard-earned cash on this kind of brainless entertainment.

That still of the alien war ships hovering over the skyscrapers is such a blatant rip from the last Transformers movie it’s beyond shameless. When you are ripping off Michael Bay you deserve to be in movie jail. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass!!!

The 2nd one was bad but it seems that the ending had to be reshot in a rush as it was filmed as taking place in the WTC… or so legend says.
But the 1st one could have landed noms for Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Supp. Actor (D’Onofrio), Cinematography, Score, both Sound, Visual Effects, Art Direction, Costume Design and Make Up without many complaints from anyone, I guess. The 1st one is one of those movies you could rewatch up to infinity…

And Amy Pascal et. al were being so brave and bold with Moneyball and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc. – this and Spiderman feel like timid franchise filmmaking.
Deena: I wasn’t talking about box office, I was talking about quality. Pirates 3 is one of the worst films ever made, and while I have more faith in Men in Black 3, no film should start shooting without a completed script unless that’s somehow part of the filmmaking fabric. I like Barry Sonenfeld but he’s no John Cassavetes.
JJ, let’s not begrudge studios their moneymaking franchises, yeah? Summer tentpoles like MiB3 and Spidey help provide a financial buffer to relieve the pressure for more daring (and expensive) projects.
I really don’t care if Dragon Tattoo broke even (although it’s turned out to be profitable after all). The Sony shareholders don’t care either — so long as the annual bottom line is in the black.
Movies that make money for studios enable them to take a chance on films with riskier potential. Sony/Columbia is bringing us Skyfall and Katryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, so kudos to Amy Pascal for that, right?

An entire story line built around Tommy Lee Jones not really wanting to be in the sequel. Inspired.

Apart from Brolin, this looks dull.
all dressed up and nowhere to go!
