Tarantino’s typecasting does not bother me, he really hasn’t made serious films. They are always more of the playful kind where he sucks the attention to himself (and I have no problem with that either). It’s like he’s constantly whispering to you: “see what I did there?”, “was that thing cool or what?” or “you must love this as much as I do”… CUE MUSIC. Even semi-arrogantly, directors don’t have to be modest IMO.
Oh no. I was really hoping for a dark, serious film. This looks…fun…but feels so much like Basterds. I really dislike when directors typecast themselves.
I think it’s pretty unfair to judge any film by a trailer. More than one trailer or master cuts like that which was done with Prometheus yes. But a single two minute trailer. You might get some preconceived notions but that’s about all you’re gonna get.
I agree with Tero: it is pretty unfair to judge a QT trailer because we aren’t getting a fair read of the dialogue. Waltz looks so great in this.
If I were Tarantino, I would get Jonze to cut his trailers. His are consistently the best…
Yeah, you can’t make a trailer out of something that relies on 10-20 minute long conversations.
But the trailer is growing on me, I just want to see more Leo. A few seconds out of 2:30 is not enough.
Tarantino films are rarely what they appear to be at first glance. The joy of his films is they all feel like dress rehearsals for films. You get to see how much fun the actors are having, or at least in comes across that way. He also underlines nuances very well, so the shade becomes the bright colour.
Like all Tarantino trailers, I really only get a kick out of them once I have seen the film.
neutral on the trailer (it’s rare I love or hate one)
but I can’t wait to see how many plusses and minuses I get when I start trashing Lincoln sight unseen (c’mon, you know it’s gonna suck)
Harry, glad to read your post. I don’t remember other Tarantino trailers, but I was disappointed that I didn’t love this one when I really like his movies. Hopefully, it’s all up from here.
I really can’t wait for this cause it has a great cast and I just like the concept. Still not a big fan of the OT. The big problem is this is still filming. Kerry Washington was on an early morning talk show and confirmed they are still filming in New Orleans. This is June that makes wonder just a little bit. Not a lot. Just a little. Doesn’t really give him much time for the whole season.
So… I guess there won’t be a Harvey Weinstein hunting season this year…
SO GREAT! Can’t wait to see this movie. Tarantino just hardly ever misses.
Well, QT has always been a world of his own. Either one likes it or hates it, right? So, what’s it gonna be this time? The trailer, of course, just shows a tiny portion of the end product. When I saw the “Avengers”-trailer it didn’t really amaze me. But. I went to the theatre and watched it. And the feeling I had from the trailer was confirmed. Well, in this “Django”-case the same feeling’s just arising.
Even beyond BOSS QT, we’re getting a real opportunity to see DiCaprio flex his ample comedic muscles a la Matt Damon in The Informant or True Grit. His line readings in The Aviator were beyond priceless (“Way of the future,” “Little Howard likes citrus,” “Where are my goddamn clouds, huh?!” “Tell Jimmy I want 10 chocolate chip cookies, medium chips, none too close to the outside”). Classic, classic stuff.
Was intrigued for the first 50 sec of the trailer and then there was like an entire tonal shift with misplaced music and whatnot and it all went downhill.
i’m not a tarantino fan, though i admire his craft of film making but i’ve never loved his work, but this looks kind of cool to me. cinematography is locked and blood on cotton was an amazing shot, catches your attention instantly.
Hahah, I’m with Tero. I LOVE QT, but this appears to be shit. And yes, anyone who hasn’t ejaculated ribbons over this trailer in the thread is getting voted down. I must say, I love the new thumbs up and down, it is amusing.
Trailer for Zemeckis’ “Flight”

thanks, Mikhail!
It looks fine, a decent-enough genre film.
But those QT fanboys expecting the second coming will be disappointed no doubt.
I love Spaghetti Westerns but this looks a little too jokey to me. Guess I shouldn’t expect the lyricism of a Leone film.
He can give ME a handjob, sure.
I dunno, Tero. You’ve got the doleful look of a Peter Stormare-type. Maybe a little QT pleasuring could make you a star.
You’re the ‘basterd’? His dick has some old cheese under the foreskin. Just for your tongue. Clean it up good.
I’m the down-voter. Tarantino’s dick has earned a lifetime of constant sucking.
Hopefully this will not be the disappointment of the year. The trailer is quite awful still. And I HAVE liked the previous trailers by QT.
Bring on the minus-votes (someone is angrily giving them for everyone not sucking Tarantino’s dick here).
Actually, it looks way more like Jackie Brown than either Inglorious Basterds or Kill Bill, with the roles reversed. Jamie Foxx is playing Robert Forster’s role and Leo is playing Samuel L. Jackson’s role!
Well, the trailer does not make it look appealing to my tastes. Feels very poorly cast with DiCaprio and Foxx. Waltz will be worth watching I am sure. I really just can’t stand Jamie Foxx…..he is so goofy looking.
VVS??? You saw maybe twenty seconds of Dicaprio in the trailer, and ur already counting him out? How about we wait til we see the movie and then make our judgements… K?
I was massively excited for this, but I am underwhelmed by the trailer. Also, I don’t see acting nominations here. Leo is having fun, but is his acting amazing? I can’t say that.
Looks like Hoffman is Hardy’s only competition so far for Best Supporting
I still don’t like it. I think this will be disappointing in almost every way. And Waltz seems that he’ll be stealing the show again. The only thing I really liked, was what The pope said, the blood on the cotton.
Never like Tarantino’s trailers. Always like his movies though. This one is no different. If his name weren’t attached to it, I probably wouldn’t see it.
Looks like True Grit, with more style, and a plot about slavery.
God damn that trailer got me so amped. QT is really the man.
I am banking on DiCaprio maybe getting a nod for a villainous role.
@The Pope- I agree. That shot is the one that instantly stood out from the trailer. The cinematography looks gorgeous, as well as the costumes and production design. And that cast! I’m so glad that Jamie Foxx looks to deliver a strong performance and that he has great chemistry with Waltz. Can’t wait to see his scenes with DiCaprio.
Actually it seems more Kill Bill than Basterds to me.
Really high hopes for this. Same Tarantino zest, but he seems to have finally noticed the great outdoors. Most of his previous classic scenes are indoors and, sometimes, almost claustrophobic. He must have brushed up on his John Ford/Sergio Leone here.
I didn’t even know James Remar was in it. Whoops. lol Anyway, that looked great. Can’t wait. I hope Leo pushes for this instead of repeating the Blood Diamond mistake by going with the less popular but more serious role. I still think he could have won for The Departed.
fyi, Boy George tweeted a Prometheus spoiler. I’m sick of this Europe getting movies first shit.
Django (Jamie Foxx) in the blue suit is an early contender for my Halloween costume this year.
One spectacular image: the blood on the cotton.
Fuck Yeah multiplied by Awesome. It’s like Tarantino took The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, threw in a little Sheriff Bart, and added a David Gilmour-looking DiCaprio and mixed it into 2 minutes of badassery.
This looks soooo good! I want Christoph Waltz to be in every Quentin Tarantino movie from now on.
Looks more Inglourious Basterds than Pulp Fiction to me (which isn’t a bad thing but isn’t great either).
