What a wonderful idea for Spielberg to give the dedication at Gettysburg this November 19. Gettysburg was last seen making an appearance in Showtime’s Homeland, as the character Brody vibed liberty and bravery at the hallowed site. I’m glad that’s not the last look I’ll have of Gettysburg this year.

The Dedication Day events begin with a wreath laying ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Soldiers’ National Monument. It continues at 10 a.m. at the rostrum with the official Dedication Day ceremony. It is there that Spielberg will speak. Both events are free and open to the general public.

The Dedication Day ceremonies are organized by The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Foundation. Former Dedication Day speakers include actor Stephen Lang, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and President Dwight Eisenhower.

I’m good with Spielberg doing Gettysburg 149. Don’t need him doing 150. He can be in the audience next year. Let the descendants run the show during the sesquicentennial.

How fitting to invite Barack Obama to be the keynote speaker at the 150th. Afterall, doesn’t he represent the best of what the Civil War was all about?

Whether or not Spielberg is named Best Director of 2012, this has been his year anyway. It has been that since Spring. In chronological order:

-The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn
    -War Horse
-Indiana Jones – The Complete Adventures (first 3 never-before released)
    -E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial
    -Empire of the Sun

    Still to come in December:

    -Catch Me If You Can

So, people’s Spielberg collections doubled on Blu-ray this year. In fact, there’s not much unreleased older titles left even – Schindler’s List and Munich are on their way for 2013.

Damn, Jaws came out before Indy Box. I knew I’d fuck it up.
