Tero Heikkinen Those praising quotes are… absolutely true. Too bad it looks like Warner will have to fight hard to get this nominated for BP. 4 nominations are coming up without any fighting, but should be 6-8 if it wasn’t such a strong year. Tero Heikkinen Chris, it’s… “Let the games begin”. Jack Traven II What began as a contemporary criticism, ended up bombastically but turned out to be a “plain” act of revenge by a woman on the murderer of her father. So, in my opinion it wouldn’t deserve more than some technical nods. But who cares what I think, right? 🙂 Dan Hi Jack, can’t agree with you. That is an immense simplification of the film and its themes. Additionally, by your argument, Hamlet-the greatest drama of the English language, is trash. Jack Traven II It’s okay, Dan. I know I’m in the minority here. It’s just one of the first things that came to my mind after the film’s last scene. James Still my #1 of the year. I hope it’s not forgotten come nomination time. Jake Hell yeah!!! Deserves BP, you all know it. Best movie of all time. steve50 Well, it’s slowly worked its way down my list for this year, but still hangs in there between #5 and #10. In a weaker year, sure, but it’s going to be armageddon out there once all the big new players arrive (keyword: new). I don’t think blockbusters have ever had a better year than 2012 – or a tougher year to find a seat at the Oscars. Tero Heikkinen What are all the players for Warner Bros? They might concentrate on this one a little bit – merely for knowing that Academy didn’t hate its predecessor, it is full of Academy-friendly names, TDK being the reason for expanding from 5 nominees in BP and it is bound to get three or four nominations without almost any hard campaigning. 20-30 million there and there and they might even buy a couple of more nominations. In order of likelyhood: 1. Sound Editing 2. Sound Mixing 3. Cinematography 4. Art Direction 5. Visual Effects 6. Film Editing 7. Makeup and Hair 8. Picture 9. Adapted Screenplay 10. Supporting Actor (pick one) Antoinette I think my two favorite movies this year are Warner Bros. CLOUD ATLAS and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. They should have a big CA/TDKR combination shindig with all the stars during nominating time and invite all the important folks. Just throw it all at the wall and see what sticks. They can afford it. 😀 I don’t think blockbusters have ever had a better year than 2012 Which is what I said how long ago? Uh huh. That’s right. I’m bad. lol Chris138 I think the two blockbuster releases (so far) this year that have any realistic chance at a possible nomination would be Skyfall and, perhaps to a lesser extent, The Dark Knight Rises. They are the two best mainstream entertainments I’ve seen so far this year so I’d be thrilled if either or both of them got some recognition in the Best Picture category, but I’m not counting on it. VVS I still say Tom Hardy deserves a Best Supporting win over any other actor so far in the category to not only put on that much muscle, but to change your walk, rhythm, and gestures to convey such authority and animalistic dominance, to change your voice to convey such philosophical wisdom, combined with the surprising emotional reveal makes this an incredible performance in my book. Jerry I would have gone with a different picture to represent the film. Hope it can be squeezed in to #10 spot for BP. Nolan is owed for TDK. Jake I agree with you WS, and Anne Hathaway gives the best performance of the year, her sassyness, her smart and snappy one liners, her confident walk, i could go on and on, and her straightforwardness with the character makes it so much more interesting, instead of overacting it and turning it into a Michelle Pfieffer performance. Its one of the most scene stealing performances ive ever seen, and she deserves the recognition for it. Also Michael Caine is great and deserves a supporting actor nod, along with Hardy and Bale. I think people dont give Hardy enough credit for the role, and I believe its equally as good as Heaths as the Joker. Sam Jake and WS I couldn’t agree with you guys more. Hardy owned this year not only with TDKR, but with Lawless as well. PaulH Every last bit of it true, but the Oscars will find a way to screw Nolan again. And I can’t believe the talk I’m hearing about Skyfall. A James Bond movie competing for best picture? A JAMES BOND FILM??? “I don’t think blockbusters have ever had a better year than 2012 – or a tougher year to find a seat at the Oscars.” And how spectacularly unfair is this? Mark my words, the Oscars will complete their purchase of the Indie Spirit Awards and just call them that from here on out. There needs to be an opposition awards show that takes dead aim at the Oscars’ biases towards blockbuster movies that also resonate with critics. The #3, #7 and #13 all-time boxoffice ranked movies with a combined average of 85 on RT are going to get f’d up the ass. Let’s nominate Quartet and Hitchcock instead and nominate J-Lawrence for the wrong movie in lead actress. Lorcan I might be in the minority, but this film is certainly one of the best films this year and SHOULD not only be a best picture nominee, but a possible win. It has garnered much attention and I hope it continues to linger in the minds of the Academy voters in a few months. It truly is a brilliant film and a great climactic end to a trilogy that has changed how superhero films are viewed. Christian Bale is subtle, yet perfectly epitomizes both Bruce and the Dark Knight. Michael Caine was perfect and although Anne Hathaway wasn’t my first choice to play Selina, she flat out smashed the role. A nomination is a must. Amazingly, she stole every scene she was in. At the end of the film, I was teary eyed, but felt completely satisfied. More films should be like this. Not completely flawless, but SHOULD and i repeat SHOULD be in the hunt for a best picture win! Ricardo Say what you want about the film , technically its immense. Breathtaking. That poster…wow. James2 Still the most memorable and entertaining film of the year. It’s sad if Mendes got awards-love for Skyfall, when he is essentially ripping off Nolan big time, and making a lesser dark knight. Alboome There’s no way in HELL that this movie is getting nominated. Partly it would be because of the shooting and partly because it’s just not as good as THE DARK KNIGHT. Back in 2008 that was a snub. Should’ve got best director, best adapted screenplay, you name it. TDKR I hate to admit it is just riddled with too many problems too ignore. Mainly the story is just a steroid inverse version of Batman Begins. The villain in the end just turns out to be a henchman. Ann Hathaway did not sell me in her action scenes. Cotillard’s character is not even remotely developed. If anything the only nom it deserves is best actor for Bale and support for Caine. They pretty much keep it together. But as for everything else I see it being shut out of most categories, tech included. Alboome As far as cinematography is concerned SkyFall has it in the bag. Just for the Shanghai tower sequence alone. CarsonT Alboome… Also thought the shots of Craig floating to the casino in Macau were pretty spectacular. Redemption time for Nolan and Bats… Let’s go! Chance Gorgeous. This film was everything. Lucien Best picture of the year! google Pretty part of content.
