All other nominations for the 2013 Producers Guild Award categories will be announced January 3, 2013, along with the individual producers.
Ryan, Curb Your Enthusiasm is eligible because the PGA uses the same eligibility period as the Emmys (June 2011 to May 2012); they just announce their nominations and awards much, much later.
Can’t get into Mad Men or Breaking Bad but I’m pretty sure that both are elite television programs. I was however thoroughly engrossed by Homeland which gets my vote.
Cant get into Homeland, I think its very mediocre. Downton Abbey is ordinary as well.
Should be between Mad Men & Breaking Bad.
“since quality television fare is pretty skimpy here”
Are you talking about the US? Are you serious? Sure, the US has some crappy shows, but every country has crappy shows. Almost all the greatest shows are from the US. There are so many great shows here, it’s far from “skimpy”.
They don’t have a category for miniseries or picture made for tv?
Homeland FTW!
I prefer Boardwalk over Thrones but i love both of them.
Downtown Abbey is amazing, I am so glad it’s being recognized again!
Boardwalk should be on there instead of Downton Abbey. Its such a great show.
Raygo – I dont think the producers have much of an alternative than focusing on some of the fictional characters. The real life characters still get plenty of screentime but there is a limit to what they can make them do or say. Still I can see the coming seasons dealing more with Rothstein/Luciano/Lansky and even more importantly Capone.
Mad Men and Boardwalk are easily the best. Homeland is good. I love Game of Thrones but love the books more. Havnt yet seen Breaking Bad.
They are all great, but Mad Men is way greater than anything else, and it is still getting better as we’re going to season 6!

I think you are overreacting, but I will grant you that Americans are suckers for a British accent (automatically grants a classier form of television when viewing).
If you lived in the United States, you may have a better appreciation for “Downton Abbey”, since quality television fare is pretty skimpy here, mate. Just being subjected to such vulgar fare as “The Jerry Springer Show”, “The Maury Povich Shown”, or any number of extremely VIOLENT US cop shows which depict mutilations, murders, child abuse, rape, kidnapping, and any number of perverse activities as “entertainment” and you will gladly tune in to “Downton Abbey” out of sheer exasperation! Personally, I’ll watch anything with Maggie Smith. She’s wonderful. As is Michelle Dockery and Joanne Frogat.
Parks and Recreation is one of the best shows of all time! In my humble opinion, of course.
Should be on this list!
No Daily Show?
DaneM: I love Game of Thrones as well. I just prefer Boardwalk Empire a little more. 😉
Boardwalk Empire’s absence is puzzling. The last two episodes of Season 2 were pretty terrific. It’s a better show than Downton Abbey. Sometimes the window dressing is a little over the top, but it’s also a beautiful show to watch.
My main complaint is that they have deviated from the source material in favor of this fictional universe. I’m not sure I buy these stories, especially since the source material is non-fiction. As someone who grew up 40 miles from Atlantic City, I know there are some pretty interesting true tales to tell, so why invent them?
That said, who know that Bobby Cannivale could be such a bad ass?
I feel like I’m living in an alternate reality where Downton Abbey is actually a good quality TV show.
It’s so so bad. So so awful. The writing is terrible and uninspired. The acting is crap – mostly because of what the actors are being forced to say. I don’t understand why it’s getting nominated for awards. I certainly don’t understand why it’s getting nominated ahead of decent, hell even mediocre shows. Do Americans just stop thinking critically when they here upper-class English accents?
I say this as a Brit – Downton Abbey is shit, and has no right being nominated alongside the likes of Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones or Homeland.
No way, Rod, Games of Thrones is exceptional and adds genre flavor to the list of nominees.
How is Curb eligible?
Breaking Bad
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
Mad Men
Damn, when did TV get SO GREAT?
4 of my 5 favorite shows are nominated … can’t complain. 🙂
I would just replace Game of Thrones with Boardwalk Empire.
