  • Wow, they really, really liked The Sessions. Go Skyfall, though!

  • Peter Anderson

Go Javier Bardem. he blew me away.

  • i guess they didn’t see Django!

  • PaulH

    When it rains…
A lonely VFX nomination for the Dark Knight Rises, one more nom than The #3 and #13 films on the all-time domestic box office ranking. A Debbie Downer of a day.
Skyfall? Old prejudices die hard. Should be up for Original Song and a few techs. No more.

  • steve50

No Ang Lee and I guess they didn’t like the Cloud Atlas Sextet. No Argo for editing, but SLP and Sessions is there? Back to your desks and do the exercise again, children.

  • Matt N

I guess they didn’t see The Hobbit either

  • Free

We all know to take the Satellites with a grain of salt, but I have to say, their Sup Actor list looks somewhat doable (it probably won’t happen, but would love for Javier Bardem to get an Oscar nom for Skyfall. He was to Skyfall what Ledger was to The Dark Knight, in my opinion).

  • Fabiola

Why do the Satellite Awards always do their best to ignore Peter Jackson???

Pathetic awards. Nobody gives a fuck about them anyway.

  • Always good for a lol!

Even with the off inspired choice, the Satellite nominations are a perennial source of bafflement for me. Nobody takes them very seriously.

  • * odd, not off

I’m in an odd / off mood, it seems.

  • Yogsss

Skyfall gets what the praise it fucking deserves! I’m surprised is not up for Sound, Film Editing and Production Design. Deakins is a lock for the win 😀

  • LSUduck

Can I just say a giant “WHOHOO!” for Samantha Barks. What a star. So happy for her!

  • Randy

Sorry, Tom Hooper — not this time.

  • Maxim

Along with Tony Kushner, they nominated John Logan and Paul Webb who are NOT EVEN CREDITED for the Lincoln screenplay.

  • Maxim

These awards though as imperfect as they may be are better than most.

  • Princess of Peace

Bravo for Skyfall. I hope that somehow Bardem gets in for an Oscar nom.

  • Tero Heikkinen

Laura Birn for Best Actress? Please. You’re not gonna see Finland anywhere near Oscar, I tell you that. Not with a movie that has three long brutal rape scenes.

I will never watch Purge again.

  • Chris138

WB seems to really be showing a lot of production material from TDKR lately, leading up to the Blu-ray release. However, this focus on sets and whatnot really makes me think that the movie has a very solid chance of getting an art direction nomination, as shown here. Personally, I think Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises have the most interesting set designs in the trilogy. The Dark Knight got nominated, but it always felt the least inspired to me.

Also a bummer that Wally Pfister didn’t get some recognition here.

  • Tero Heikkinen

TDKR has the biggest sets for any film in the world in 2012, and they are wonderful. If it lost Art Direction nomination, it would be a real shame. But it will not lose there. 98% certainty for that nomination.

  • Uncle Jay

I’m guessing “Django Unchained” wasn’t screened?! I find it hard to believe it didn’t snag not one nod!

  • joe

Skyfall for best picture, wow. Go Amy Adams for the master. Frankenweenie and Paranorman deserve best animated feature nominations

  • joe

yay for West of memphis getting in the best documentary. what is pieta. All the animated features deserves there nominations. The Dark Knight Rises gets in for visuals effects, yes. that’s promising.

  • joe

The Hobbit Visual Effects Person died today. Maybe the nomination will be eliminated.

  • DZ30

Here we go again. How can film critics nominate a film the best of the year yet don’t feel like Director and Screenplay played a whole lot in its suppose greatness. Can someone explain it to me.

  • Yvette

Dench for Bond in Supp Actress but no Sally Field? Bardem for Bond but no Mcconaughey for Magic Mike, no Rachel Wiesz?
These are a joke, a level just below the Golden Globes….
