I love this interview. I don’t think it’s a matter of many of us just being old and out of touch. It’s a matter of watching something that was imperfect but beautiful turn into a fast food industry. It’s depressing, if you remember what things used to be like. I love anyone who can really slice through the bullshit and Obst does that. But she does more. A lot more. Her book is a must-read.
“I watch the Oscars now and I wonder when are we going to see the Oscars turn into the MTV movie awards. [etc.]”
Obst: “Well it’s a really interesting question because the Academy just really doesn’t give a good goddamn.”
Int: But what about ratings?Obst: “The relationship between the ratings the network gets and what the Academy does is minimal, because they’re two entirely different organizations, right? The Academy is the Academy and they sell the rights to the network. I think the big argument is how to make the show less boring.”
Parties okay but only go if nominated [or presenting], “People love to go to the Oscars and they only go if they’re nominated, which is why they love to go, because they’re nominated. No one would be caught dead going to the Oscars if they weren’t nominated … because that’s such a loser-ish thing to do.”
“The most fun is the Golden Globes because there’s liquor and everybody gets drunk.”
Or you could just smoke a doob in the limo on the way there like Jennifer Lawrence or Jack Nicholson. Anyway, it’s worth a watch.
I loved this interview! I can’t stop thinking about it! What she said is hauntingly, exactly right. Unfortunately…
How does anything good get made at all anymore?
Big whoop. Same old thing we always here on this site
Not even gonna front. Doesn’t look like something I’d ever wanna see. How about a Prince Harry reality show? I’d DRV that.
DIANA’s first teaser with Naomi Watts looks good!

I hope it was just an epitome of wholesale stereotypical notion. [Not to discount her remarks] I mean, it is to be hoped, not all, or better, just some of them were believed to think and behave that way – it would be vainglorious of sort for not attending one of the most important, annual events held by one’s #own industry just because one has not been nominated, let’s say, as initially expected, in that given year. . . .

Thanks for embedding.

[OT] Just saw Schindler’s Lift last night; for some reason […] didn’t feel like enjoying it #fully as in the first time in theater…. Strange…. Anyway, re PTA, Warner TV (in […] Asia) will air Magnolia this weekend. Looking forward to it.
Correction: I meant, Schindler’s List. . . . Here’s your sign. . . . : )
Schindler’s Lift – wasn’t that the Joan Rivers doc from a couple of years ago?
Haa. . . . Here’s your sign xD
I love all those Warner TV, Warner Channel, etc that Warner Bros. has in other countries. Such great programming! AMC Original Series, Independent films, CW trash, fun cartoons, all in one channel!… because that is all I do when I travel: Watch TV
Wow – what a fun (if also rather depressing) listen!
Just ordered my copy of the book! Can’t wait to read it.
Thanks Sasha!
What? There is not a single interesting opinion (or even coherent sentence) in any of those quotations.
I have to agree with you. Nothing worth highlighting here. The same old…but maybe it needs to be said over and over and over again? I hope her book is infinitely better than the quotes, though.
