Fairly enlightening, this. And depressing. Don’t make me start talking about the three holes again. Full infographic after the cut.

It’s oviously the film industry is still a man’s world. These numbers are sad and even more said is that it’s not surprising.
But I DO think women are getting more and more influence. Slowly.
They came a long way, women roles on stages were played by male actors, because women were not allowed to act on stage for a very long time. Or going to school, or being free to vote, or even being free at all.
But we speak about film and media here, so…
Bigelow has broken the streak of women not winning an Oscar for directing. It will take many years to have another female director archieving this again, but undoubtly, it will come.
Some numbers are actually pretty shocking.
Great piece. I’d love to see the names of the movies used and more of the methodology – what counts as “sexually revealing” – but still this is a great start.
The numbers aren’t very encouraging, but lets keep in mind a few things:
1.) Because of war movies, crime movies, etc. more male actors will be employed.
2.) The crew is always going to be predominantly male.
3.) Women in the real world are dressing in more and more sexually revealing clothing. (Men aren’t shopping for them or dressing them.)
4.) Does baring of breasts count in the figures above?
i don’t think any of the 5 influential women in film are any good. step it up ladies!
The only statistic here I take issue with is “28.8% vs 7% of women wore sexually revealing clothing”.
I’m not sure what this would men for men. Short shorts? Is a low cut shirt considered sexually revealing? Or is no shirt at all? Although no shirt would probably be considered partial nudity.
The rest is quite a shame.

And I should fucking hope so. I wouldn’t want to frequent a website which didn’t opine that women and men are equal. If you’re not happy with that, why must you comment here? Why can’t you just fuck off?
A strong female character not showcasing who does not takes her cloth off and is not in need of a boy/ man rescuing her
And, just as encouragingly, such a character who doesn’t resort to violence nor does she assume masculine characteristics in order to succeed in life, as so many female heroes in film do.
I love this pro feminism blog!
Dan: Someone has to start and keep fighting for a more balanced industry. Not only for women, but also more black, asian and hispanic characters in main roles in both films and television. And with that we will get more interesting and diverse movies for the international audience. The international box office today is getting more and more attention from Hollywood. I think that Hunger Games is a good example of this. A strong female character not showcasing who does not takes her cloth off and is not in need of a boy/ man rescuing her
