“I know everyone wants 12 Years or Gravity but my God why is The Wolf not a real contender?”
I think everyone (Sasha included) is talking about 12 Years and Gravity more because they have an actual shot. I would love it if Wolf won, it’s in my top 3 of the year, but I don’t think it has any kind of a chance.
Russofsondheim – it’s 3 hours and it goes by in a flash!
Niecy Nash completely walks away with the series.
I will never understand people nominating Franco for Spring Breakers. That movie was like nails on a chalkboard, I just couldn’t stand it’s over-stylized, endless montage nonsense. All Franco did was dress the part and speak slurry and slow, I honestly don’t get the recognition he’s getting for saying “Spring breeeaaaak” over and over.
I have Getting On on my TiVo, will definitely watch it soon, heck, maybe today.
Just some observation
Love the inclusion of Unsung Film of the Year, plus the poetic feels of its title. As well as the inclusion of both Frances Ha and Sort Term 12 (I haven’t seen either yet but from what I’ve gathered they both seem to be good options.).
Anyway, one thing: Wilde Artist of the Year going to James Franco rather than Spike Jonze or Alfonzo Cuaron (or Steve McQueen) – what’s the context here?
On the other hand rufussondheim, I’m really glad to see some recognition for Getting On. A truly hilarious show that not enough people watched. If you haven’t yet, go and watch it! I doubt it will get a second season, which is too bad.
Sad that Ja’mie: Private School Girl didn’t win. It’s impossible to describe why that show was wonderful other than that it took satire to a completely new level I’ve not seen before. When I finished that sixth episode, I was completely blown away. One of my favorite shows from 2013 (and it was definitely the one that made me last the most and the hardest)
Cyrus, “Stranger” is a 2014 release!
Yeah Scott, i’m so dissapointing that even American Hustle looks like that have more chances of winning than Wolf, Wolf was by far my favorite film of 2013
Glad Shirley Bassey made it in. She was so overdue! 🙂
Surprised that an amazing film like Stranger by the Lake wasn’t even on this list.
I know this does not reflect how the Academy will vote but I did find it most interesting. The Clark library which is part of UCLA, hosts scholars (most are thirtysomethings) throughout the year who come to study the collection and this year the consensus is that The Wolf of Wall Street is the most interesting and compelling film of the year of the nominees. These people while educated and librarians and professors are far from in touch with the industry pulse. Marty should win according to them. Gravity they found a little simple and boring and 12 Years was too dark and violent and uneven.
I know everyone wants 12 Years or Gravity but my God why is The Wolf not a real contender? It was my favorite of the three and the only one of the three I would willingly watch again. Scorsese creates layers. I got Gravity first time big time. Why aren’t you championing The Wolf Sasha when it’s your favorite film as well? McQueen stands nowhere near the ground that Scorsese is upon.
Robin Wright should have won in her category
Bias for winners right?
This is ffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabullooooooooooous!
lol
