She is just great, amazing, funny, fabulous, etc etc…

I love both ladies! Julia was strong woman’s film with Jane and Vanessa Redgrave leading the charge.

Let me guess, which Hollywood icon did she accuse of antisemitism and misogyny this time? Henry Fonda? Oh wait, there’s no Oscar nom at stake this time, so I guess she might actually have made a decent speech. The sad thing about Meryl is that even when she’s honoring someone else, she can’t help but make it all about herself…

  • Sonja

Eh, the thing is to invite people that are connected in a way to the people they honor. Why should Meryl be forbidden to talk about how Fonda has opened the door for her?
She did that to Mike Nichols and Shirley McLaine before and plenty of other people have honored Meryl and of course brought themselves into it, too. Makes sense to me, actually.

Thanks for posting that Sasha. It made my morning. Meryl Streep and Jane Fonda are the best.

“Whose oscar nomination is she going to ruin and steal from this time?” JK.

I do love Meryl. And Jane Fonda.

  • GoOnNow

joke or not: She wants to steal or ruin nobody, she wants to stay in the business. She’s also more than alive and happy to work. Why oh why are we so critical?

It’s so easy to end up without potent work (for which you also get paid well) no matter how great you are.

When was the last powerful project from: Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Sissy Spacek, Shirley Maclaine, etc.? You get my point, right? “Albern Nobbs” was a good film, yeah, but I don’t think Glenn Close received a hefty paycheck for it. Also, that was in 2011, it’s 2014 now.

Excluding Meryl, few actresses are lucky enough to be in the Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave category.

People keep forgetting that Meryl told her studio NOT to campaign her for Hope Springs. She’s not that Oscar hungry, She knows when to take a break. She had only 1 motion picture in each of the following years: 2013, 2012 and 2011, & 0 films in 2010.

Of all the great actors and actresses out there above the age of 60 she is easily the only one who has been consistently very good-to-great in films that people actually saw.

While admiring Jane Fonda’s dramatic work (her performance in “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” is probably the stand-out for me of her career), I actually really liked her more when she did a comedy (“Cat Ballou”, “Barefoot in the Park” and “9 to 5”). Her timing was impeccable when in comedy (yes, folks, it’s HARD!).
