But I hear that they are going to put her in Supporting, which if they do, she’ll win. Benutty Add? Samantha Morton – Miss Julie Meryl Streep – Into the Woods Anne Hathaway – Interstellar Jessica Chastain – Interstellar Naomi Watts – Birdman Aethelred Add? Mia Wasikowska in Only Lovers Left Alive Viola Davis in Eleanor Rigby Manuel Samantha Morton – Miss Julie looks strong Bryce Forestieri I see people keep misunderestimating UNDER THE WOODS. Kirsten Stewart is not happening. Actually, I like the idea of Moore being campaigned in ‘Supporting’ for MAPS. Role is apparently not a clear cut lead and very meaty since it won her Best Actress at Cannes. Increases her chances of being recognized twice, but most importantly, saves her from competing against herself. I’m assuming of course I will like that other movie that so many assume she’s a Best Actress shoe-in for. Right now even the title of that movie escapes me so I might not care for it in the end. I’m just such a big fan of hers who has been robbed a few times. And I am a Cronenberg shill so any chance for MAPS to somehow get in there, I’ll take it. I didn’t know Oprah was in SELMA. Every time I am reminded Jena Malone is in INHERENT VICE I smile at the possibilities. *sliming* Annie Laughing at people saying Kristen Stewart is not happening. Sure, topping Indiewire’s Cannes best supporting PERFORMANCE list, above Mark Ruffalo, counts for nothing at all. But hey let’s carry on as if she has no chance at all! david Brie Larson!!!! The Gambler Watermelons Please add Kate ‘the Great’ Winslet (Titanic, Iris) for her supporting role in the feature film Divergent. -Watermelons Mark Octavia Spencer _Get On Up Natasha Uma Thurman’s short time on screen in Nymphomaniac is mind blowing, but I think the academy will stay away from nominating that film in any way—I wouldn’t mind being pleasantly surprised. Another stunning list–too little time for now for true in-depth analysis. I predict great things for Brie Larson in general as long as she and her agent stay smart. Jenna Malone always stands out and will likely become better known if she is persistent in movie-making. Amy I’m hopeful that Julianne Moore will also be noticed as Best Actress material for Still Alice that’s premiering at TIFF and that Kristen Stewart could possibly get a Best Supporting nod for that performance, as well. Kristen has gotten rave reviews for Sils Maria, too, and the overall film is getting mixed to positive reviews. I hope the idiot prejudice that exists against her will not hinder the possibility. Melissa Hopefully this is a breaktru year for Kristen. Paddy Mulholland Can I vote for Shohreh Aghdashloo five times plz? Also add Naomi Watts for Birdman so I can vote for her in Birdman and St. Vincent and Tank Girl TYVM. Joey Are they campaigning everyone in Into the Woods as Supporting? That’s going to be interesting. Blunt’s character is by far the most interesting, but something can be said about Cinderella realizing that ‘ever after’ isn’t really the end. If anyone in Supporting Actress gets nominated, I’d say it’s safer to go with Blunt. Joanna Gleason won a Tony Award for The Baker’s Wife for the original Broadway production. Joel Joanna Gleason won the Tony Award for ‘Into the Woods’ in the Leading Actress category. Ra S. PLEASE NO KRISTEN STEWART!!!!! Ryan Adams all these great suggestions for additions. now I’m back at the desk I’ll fix things up with more options. thanks, guys. Joe My current predictions: Patricia Arquette in Boyhood Emily Blunt in Into the Woods Keira Knightley in The Imitation Game Julianne Moore in Map to the Stars Emma Stone in Birdman Kane Viola Davis Patricia Arquette (lead or supporting?) Jessica Chastain (lead or supporting?) Reese Witherspoon Imelda Staunton Alt. is Lesley Manville UBourgeois Man, trying to pick out supporting this far ahead in the game is tricky. Nearly everything feels like a shot in the dark. My five: Patricia Arquette – Boyhood Julianne Moore – Maps to the Stars Kristen Stewart – The Clouds of Sils Maria Naomi Watts – Birdman Meryl Streep – Into the Woods I also gave votes to Shoreh Ashdagloo, Jena Malone, Oprah, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jessica Chastain. rufussondheim unless Meryl Streep has an awards worthy role in another film she will be listed as lead. At the Tonys both Gleason and Peters had lead nominations if I recall. But there was no real competition here, everyone knew it would be one or the other. The lead from Phantom didn’t have a chance since she was only a voice, unable to act her way out of a paper bag. A double nomination for Blunt and Kendrick is quite possible if the film is extremely strong. Both roles are good. (As for those that say Crosby didn’t net a nomination for Cinderella at the Tonys, I can’t say why that didn’t happen, but there Cinderella has two great songs in the show, one of which is at the end of the show, and she has two scenes while brief are enormously touching, so I think Kendrick has a real shot. rufussondheim Sorry to drone on about ITW, but I just looked up the cast again and forgot Tracey Ullman was playing the part of Jack;s Mother. She never gets her own song, but it’s a finely crafted part that has a strong presence whenever on stage. It’s a real longshot, but Ullman is talented enough of a comedienne/actress that she could steal whatever scene she’s in. (If you are unfamiliar with the part, it’s best described as something near perfect for Madeleine Kahn.) Ryan Adams rufussondheim, never worry. You’re able to tell us what to expect from Into the Woods. You’re bringing hard facts to a page of speculation. That’s what we need. Rob Y As much as I do not like Kristen Stewart, I am intrigued to see her in Sils. Genadijus I personally would support Naomi Watts as she looks great and have outstanding roles/performances in both movies “St. Vincent” & “Birdman”. I truly believe that it can be a true vehicle for her to finally get Oscar statue. Naomi has overdue factor, she is well-respected in Holywood, both commercial and indie markets, worked with so many great directors, and have that leftover from “The Impossible” as well as a couple of snubs. guest laughing so hard with robert pattinson fans pressed here hahahahahah GO TO BUY 10 TICKTES FOR THE ROVER FLOP rufussondheim you know, I’m really looking forward to Ullman in this part. Ullman, I think is really underutilized as an actress. Maybe she likes light schedule since she probably has enough cash to retire. Either way. I think when people see it, they will be pleasantly reminded of what we’ve been missing. Plus she gets, arguable the most clever lyric in a show filled with brilliant lyrics. There’s no time to sit and dither. While her withers wither with her. It’s about Jacks cow before he takes him to market. Objectivity You’ve already seen COSM? Joey Oh, you’re right. I’m mistaken! Sorry! Joey But I can see Blunt being campaigned as Supporting just to get out of Meryl’s way. Joey Every time I see anything for Get On Up, all I can think of is Oscar for Viola Davis. I don’t want to jinx it, though! Edkargir I only vote for films I have seen. Patricia Arquette is a female lead in Boyhood. Richard B Predicted 5 Patricia Arquette Julianne Moore Jessica Chastain Kristin Scott Thomas Insert Into the Woods nominee Predicting supporting is usually harder than lead, but this is definitely a category bound for surprises. Joey I have my fingers crossed for Blunt. The Baker’s Wife is such a great part. I’m hoping Kendrick gets more traction for Last Five Years in Lead, but I’d be happy to see her Cinderella get in. Matt Kristen had a trully acclaimed performance in Clouds of Sils Maria, acclaimed enough to support the Oscar nom, the critics even elected her the best supporting performance from Cannes, in front of strong Oscar contenders such as Mark Rufallo and J.K Simmons, and the critics from the guardian elected her among the 3 best female performances from Cannes, the movie itself got strong reviews as well (89% on rottentomatoes so far), the biggest problem is IFC which is pretty weak at campaigning, if it wasn’t for that, she would easily get a nom. She could still score from Still Alice (especially Julianne), so.. we’ll have to wait and see. Mello Why patricia is in this list? She is a main not support actress in Boyhood! Is IFC trying to put her in support to have more chances? It is so unfair…. Julianne Moore is a main actress opportunity with Still Alice. I think it is her year! Not with Maps but with Still Alice, I agree with Matt, Kristen Stewart has receiving praises from all the places where the movie screened. I think she will just not have a good chance with Clouds Of Sils Maria if IFC do their job for another movies than Boyhood, as I think she will probably will kill it performing against Julianne Moore in Still Alice. I read the book and Julianne and Kristen have an incredible characters in their hands and amazing dialogs. Arquette, Chastain and Moore should be listed in the main female performance not support. My list of support female performances should be (based mostly in what I read and know about the actresses, because I still did’t see most of the movies) Kristen Stewart (Cloud Of Sils Maria) Mia Wasikowska (Map To The Stars) (She killed it there!) Emily Blunt (Into The Woods) Vanessa Redgrave (FoxCatcher) Kristin Scott Thomas (Suite Française) Bis Boyhood will sure be the oscar king of this year, so Patricia is the strongest contender. I am sure Julianne is amazing in Maps, she got amazing reviews, the problem is that Maps got weak reviews (it’s not even fresh on rotten), especially from americans, a movie in that case hardly ever is able to get a nom, even if the performances (mia and juliannes) are terrific. I heard about Still Alice which is going to premiere at TIFF and it sounds to have some serious Oscar potential, but we have to wait for the first reviews to be able to measure its chances. Oscar could easily embrace Kristen, considering she is a big movie star (you might deslike her, but she leaded a pretty successfull franchise and Snow White and before that she had a strong reputation as an indie actress) and is receiving rave reviews for her performance in Sils Maria, it all depends how they are going to manage the movie in America, and we are still in the middle of the year, from now on there will be a lot of competition, she still has a lot of chances though Chris Price The out-of-nowhere contender for Supporting Actress this year will actually be Andrea Riseborough for Birdman, trust me. Out of all the ladies in the movie she makes the strongest impression with limited screen time. Watts is strong, but I feel like she’ll get taken for granted. Ra S. No, I haven’t yet. I was just wishing not to take her seriously without seeing the film, but I am willing to. SURPRISE ME! Gautam Anand I read the screenplay of St. Vincent back in April, and from then on, I knew Naomi’s all but lock for a nomination (probably, even a win depending on how the year turns out to be). I was secretly wishing that no one comes to know about how great Naomi’s role is in St. Vincent (as I was the only one predicting her to be nominated). But it seems, slowly people are taking notice as I am now seeing it on few predictions list when a month back there was no mention of her anywhere. keifer I also thought Miranda Richardson gave a memorable bitchy performance in “Belle”. Proud Krisbian Forever Kristen Stewart. She is a legend ♥ Stephen Holt In “Into the Woods” which I saw originally on Bway, then in the revival in the Park, the witch is the leading role. And she transforms from ugly to beautiful, which always counts. Co-lead is the Baker’s Wife, which is the role with heart. Amy Adams fighting one of the most ridiculous wigs in theater history came out well in the Park. And Donna Murphy was the witch. Nobody in the Park revival got nominated for ANYthing, if memory serves. But the Original did on Bway. The critics (not me) blasted the hell out of ITW in the Park revival, but loved the Bway original. Sondheim wrote this in the middle of the worst of the AIDS crisis when people were dying every other minute. The giantess wrath, which kills half the cast at the intermission, was the metaphor. So it may have seemed more timely in the first place, than it did in the second place. But the Witch is really the lead. I.e. Meryl AGAIN! And she has many songs. And you know, Meryl is a very nice singer, too. On top of everything else. We could see her nominated AGAIN for this. In lead. Which the Witch is. But yes, Joanna Gleeson won the Tony over Bernadette, who were the Baker’s wife and the witch, respectively Glesson winning was a bit of a surprise, if I remember correctly. But there will be other actresses coming along. This may be Amy Adams’ year to win. Finally. For “Big Eyes” plus she got Harvey behind her this time. Murdock My predictions: Patricia Arquette – Boyhood (she could go as lead) Naomi Watts – Birdman (the academy will prefer Naomi instead of Emma, considering her strong reputation) Emily Blunt – Into The Woods (they might go with Anna instead, but Emily’s part is stronger) Felicity Jones – Theory of Everything (she could go lead) Kristen Stewart – The Clouds of Sils Maria (It will not be a easy battle, considering IFC doesn’t campaign properly, the rave reviews and her big-ish name will have to be enough, luckily she has 3 other juicy movies coming that can increase her oscar buzz) Keira Knightley – The Imitation Game (She’s having a strong year with also Begin Again and Laggies) Maps is rotten, in this case Mia and Julianne are probably out, at least for this movie. Jessica has a lot of oscar potential performances this year, so they will probably focus in one that she is the lead. Meryl is probably going as lead. They’ll probably focus in the other Reese’s performance (Wild) which she is lead.
