When a wormhole (which theoretically can connect widely-separated regions of spacetime) is discovered, explorers and scientists unite to embark on a voyage through it, transcending the limits of human space travel. Among the travelers is a widowed engineer (Matthew McConaughey) who has to decide to leave behind his two children to join the voyage to another galaxy with the goal of saving humanity.
Loved it.
Don’t forget Ellen Burstyn. She’s the elderly Murph. Maybe McConaughey will reunite with his family at the end when they are much older…a la the effects of interstellar travel?
This is reminding me of Contact big time. Funny McConaughey was in that one too. It’ll have a big emotional payoff at the end like the Zemeckis picture.
Nolan will probably get in Best Director this time. May win it too, if he follows the trajectory of past winners.
Linklater (100% in)
Inarritu
Nolan
Miller
Another Indie/Unexpected
Anderson (all depending on how accessible the film is…if Master-level obscure he’s missing)
Fincher (all depending on how the movie’s received…if on level of Dragon Tattoo he’s missing)
Cronenberg (all depending on reviews…they’d love to nominate him)
Leigh (all depending on how the chips above fall)
I also wouldn’t count out Ridley Scott, if the film’s a smash hit. He’s another one that would be rewarded if he comes through.
I think the trend of the same movie winning the Oscar for Visual Effects and Cinematography will continue with Interstellar. Nominations for Sound, Sound Editing, Score, Set, and Editing also seem highly likely. Best Picture might happen, but I have pretty much given up on the Directors Branch ever nominating Nolan.
Amazing trailer and we haven’t even seen Matt Damon yet, I bet he’s an alien.
:::: SPOILER ALERT(uh???) ::::
Everyone is obsessing over what’s Jessica Chastain’s role. Fine by me, she’s certainly earned it. So apparently, it’s become pretty clear that she’s the adult “Murph” and everyone is still freaking out about it. I mean, fine, I’m way more excited about her performance in MISS JULIE, but anyways, my point is I wish more people were as excited about Casey Affleck obviously being the older “son” or whatever the boy is to McConaughey. Yes, it’s obvious which role seems more significant, still, I’m always ecstatic anytime he gets work in projects of this caliber. To me, he’s just as mesmerizing a screen presence as Chastain herself.
Happy Birthday to the One who Directs!
However, I can’t help but think of Rodney Dangerfield when I hear “rage against the dying of the light”. 🙂
In Nolan We Trust.
Looking forward to Christopher Nolan not getting a Best Director nomination again!

Anything but Boyhood for Best Picture. And this is the one that’ll take that gimmick movie apart.
So is it any movie but Boyhood or JUST this movie. You say anything but Boyhood then say this is the one that WILL take it apart.
Damn. This looks fantastic.
Terrific trailer, and one that I think is much more satisfying than the one released in May. The visuals look stunning and it looks to be a nice change of pace for Nolan after making action blockbusters for the past 6 years or so. I’m sure the more overt emotional beats will alienate the more cynical viewers in Nolan’s fanbase, who only want him to keep making The Dark Knight and Inception for the rest of his career. I’m certainly intrigued, though.
Trying to find a replacement. It’s gone from youtube.
Because nobody at Warner Bros wants anybody to see this or get excited.
Yeah it says the video is private, I suspect to non-US residents.
Whomever posted it to youtube must’ve been told to take it down because it’s not available to US residents either.
I don’t like this other embed format but it’s the best I can find for now.
Don’t worry. But, yeah, very odd behavior. I believe I tweeted the HitFix link in the end. Great trailer though.

Video is not playing.
Does anyone know the length of this movie yet? Has to be around 3 hours doesn’t it?
One commenter over at InContention said that he’d heard that the film is currently 8 reels in length, so that means somewhere around 2:45 to possibly 3 hours. I doubt it’ll go for the full 3 hour running time, but perhaps somewhere between 2:30 and 2:45 when all is said and done. I haven’t read the script or anything so I’m just guessing here.
Looks like McConaughey will be back with a nomination. Very emotional stuff.
Everything under the stars and above is telling me that this is the year a Nolan picture sweeps… Just sweeps fucking everything.
Jaw droppingly great trailer IMO. Not sure how this doesn’t make the lineup in Best Pic and probably Best Director. Based on trailers and what’s out there seen so far, this and Foxcatcher and Boyhood are all in for Best Pic.
Looks epic, but the dialogue is a bit clunky e.g. “Love is the one thing that transcends time and space”, that sounds like a platitude. Nonetheless, still looking forward to the great visuals and it could win a lot of technical awards (maybe even best director, if Cuaron can do it, I think Nolan can as well…Fincher VS Nolan???) come Oscar season.
Shivers..that’s is all.
