Ahead of the final trailer release, Disney have unveiled ten brand new character posters for Into The Woods. The film features an all star cast including Meryl Streep as The Witch, Johnny Depp as The Big Bad Wolf, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt.
Rob Marshall who directs the Stephen Sondheim musical told Variety, “This is a fairy tale for the 21st century, for the children of today, who live in a much more unstable and complicated world than I did growing up,”
Into The Woods opens on Christmas Day.
Blunt and Kendrick for Christmas. So looking forward to the holidays.
” could none of these characters be played by nin white actors”
Why?? For what purpose???
Oh, and there was the tidbit dropped that Sondheim is working on a new musical. At this stage, I’m completely skeptical anything will come of it in the near future, it’s such a out of the box idea for a musical, though, that it sounds like it’s a must-have and I would give a year of my life to make sure it happened (wouldn’t it be tragic if I only had a year left to live and it would have happened anyway, but I digress.
Fans of Luis Bunuel should read the link….

Oh sh*t…
Ricky, the trailer is coming out tomorrow.
Sasha/Ryan – Any word on when the final trailer is coming? It’d be nice to hear some real singing
They move. Like holograms. Anna Kendrick’s hair moves. I’m a child again. Amazing!
Just wait, I am taking off work the entire month of December so I can spend 23 hours a day discussing the film.
Every time something about ITW is posted, I think to myself, “What is RufusSondheim going to say about this…”
Yeah, that Prince designation is kind of silly. The “Other” Prince. Maybe we should call him Prince Harry.
The Variety article linked above is extremely interesting. Seems like the running time is 2 hours (which is about 15 to 20 minutes longer than the show (assuming that two hours doesn’t include the credits) and that’s just fine by me, There’s a lot of the show that can be cut quite easily. Some of the end of the opening number can go quite easily, and the ends of the first act and beginning of the second act can easily be trimmed. Without an intermission, those parts are excessive and not very cinematic. They work on stage, but would be dull if they are part of the film in full. And there are some brief group songs that wouldn’t work on film even though they serve as important transition songs in the musical (First Midnight, Second Midnight), but after that, I’m struggling a bit as to what might be cut. I’m assuming it’s just a few seconds here and there that can be hastened because of the transitions between scenes that just take more time on stage.
But anyway, I’m getting more and more excited and I already have my Xmas date set!
Hmm. The last time I ran into a Prince decked-out in leather in the woods….
The promo budget for this must be more than production budget of 3 Boyhoods.
I’m peeing over these. Luckily, I’m in the woods. Heyyyooo!!!
I especially think it’s funny that they called Pine and Magnussen The Prince and The Other Prince instead of Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince. Hilarious. The Princes should be always be displayed side by side.
I’m sure it’s tradition and all that, but could none of those characters be played by non-white actors??
