Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

Blanchett may well win a 3rd down the line. I would love to see Judy Davis get a shot at the Academy Award.
Blanchett won’t win a third. But watch out for Meryl this year. That rock film looks like gold.
She has no chance. not award worthy role. Maybe costume design or production design hair makeup. that’s all.
The Dressmaker looks to me like a better role for Kate Winslet.
directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse. also starring Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving and… Judy Davis.
(Watermelons first told us about The Dressmaker in May, 2013)
I saw this at TIFF last year, great little movie, beautiful to look at and Rickman and Winslet are amazing together. However the story is kinda fluffy and nothing really comes together in the end. Won’t see any nods for this one unless it’s a slow year for costumes/production design contenders.
John, I ADORE Masterpiece Theatre as it is often consistent, interesting, quality work! But Hallmark is much different, substance-less fluff and this is what it feels like to me: brits enjoying themselves in magnificent settings, wearing fancy costumes, but having little idea what life was like at the French court back then. I mean there’s a still in which Kate Winslet apparently meets a wigless and coatless king (Alan Rickman) alone in the gardens. It’s probably one of those cliché sentimental scene in which an intimidating powerful person discovers the meaning of life, love, beauty, whatever, through an aptly-crafted, unnatural sermon by a lowly employee who somehow manages to crack his shell. Who knows? It might’ve happened but it looks extremely dubious to me.
A Little Chaos got mixed reviews i would say, it’s a better movie than some stupid critics are saying!
Hallmark. Masterpiece Theatre. These terms are thrown around a lot.
For me, I LOVE those types of movies. I find the acting to always be interesting; and full of nuance. I find the stories to be interesting (if not always told in a cutting edge way). And Lord knows those film are typically great to look at.
I say, bring on A Little Chaos.
Corset Kate is back! Aren’t you excited?
@GOONNOW – good shout. Reckon those 3 are pretty certain, barring their films being absolutely horrific. I think Saoirse Ronan will have a good chance for Brooklyn, which had sundance dancing. Hoping Harvey will be able to pull off a win for Carol and Haynes (will not complain if Blanchett wins her 3rd either).
It looks gorgeous of course since it takes place in France, but other than that it seems kind of lame like a history film made for Lifetime or Hallmark viewers.
Lock it in, folks!

Great cast here.
A Little Chaos has received mediocre reviews, I mean 😛
OK, it’s time to start the Best Actress predictions for next year.
I’m thinking we’ll have a very predictable BA list of names because I can’t see how the Academy won’t nominate the following 3 performances:
Cate Blanchett – Carol (dir. Todd Haynes; lesbian affair, distribution: Harvey)
Meryl Streep – Ricki and the Flash (dir. Jonathan Demme)
Jennifer Lawrence – Joy (dir. David O. Russell AGAIN, collaborating with Bradley Cooper AGAIN)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Winslet might have a chance with The Dress Maker but it’s set in Australia and doesn’t sound Oscar attractive enough; She can’t possible a lead in the Steve Jobs film and The Dressmaker has already received nothing more than mediocre reviews and is released in the spring = BA graveyard.
Who else will sneak in?
Do you think this will be Carey Mulligan’s year with two potent-sounding leads? – Suffragette, Far From the Madding Crowd?
Keira has nothing that Oscar will fall for in 2015, neither does Jessica Chastain or Bullock
Nicole Kidman is in 100 million movies this year, the following sound like leads – Queen of the Desert, Strangerland, The Family Fang
We also have:
Julianne Moore – Freeheld (Just won and a co-lead?)
Marion Cotillard – Macbeth (Supporting and Shakepseare at the Oscars)
Maggie Smith – The Lady in the Van (Not enough interest?)
Rooney Mara – The Secret Scripture, Carol
Natalie Porman – Jane Got a Gun
The big exception to my query of course is Meryl Streep. But then she will always be in a category all of her own. 🙂
Is there a nominations “curse” for actresses who were almost perennial nominees and then disappear from the nominations list after winning? Kate Winslet racked up numerous nominations before finally winning for “The Reader” and since then she’s been off the awards radar. Same with Susan Sarandon. Finally won for “Dead Man Walking” after being a constant presence as best Actress nominee, and since then…pfft. Does the Academy think, finally, we gave it to you, now go away? Will the same fate befall Julianne Moore? I hope not, and I hope we see still more of Winslet and Sarandon as well as Moore in great movies giving great performances that also get acknowledged as such…
Yes. Matthias is “very attractive” and that is a reason he is cast in movies. Another reason is that he is an excellent actor with great range. He is not always the romantic interest; see The Drop.
Is it just me or does it feel as if Matthias Schoenaerts is playing the same role over and over again this year with this, Suite Francaise and Far From The Madding Crowd…
For the straight women and gay men here, is he considered very attractive and is that the reason why he is cast as the romantic interest in all these costume drama’s?
