This Vanity Fair cover is encouraging because it looks like they’re deliberately putting Daisy Ridley front and center, as in, she’s THE STAR. Some say she’s the new Luke, therefore the actual lead and driving force and some say she’s one of three leads. Adam Driver is one, Oscar Isaac is another. John Boyega, Harrison Ford and Chewy join her. I will be heartbroken if this turns out not to be the case. Star Wars is the one franchise that could sell no matter who or what was in the lead so it would be mighty brave of them to have a female at the center. I guess we shall see. If it turns out to be thus, color me impressed.
Here are a few photos taken by Annie Leibowitz for Vanity Fair.
John Boyega is one of the leads, not Adam a Driver despite his villain role. Daisy Ridley and Boyega are the two main leads with Oscar Isaac as the 3rd but he’s behind them in regards to who are the main characters.
Ruchonne should the ass kissing and wait until he sees the movie.
Sigh … can we ban this unfortunate fool? ^^ also notify Ridley’s team to beef up security
Lupita is awful. Hollywood owes her nothing. They already gave her too much. Daisy Ridley is the lead and she won the part fair and square and will be sensational. No amount of red-carpet whoring is going to help Lupita upstage Ridley. This is Ridley’s show. She’s incredibly charismatic, likeable, pretty, feminine and young.
All I care about is that they give Lupita N. a fair shake. SHE should be the central character PLEASE. When there are so few roles like this for AA women. Let alone AA women with OSCARS, for g*ds sake!
Daisy Ridley IS the lead. They always had the idea to have a female lead. She’s strongly rumored to be Han and Leia’s daughter because that character existed in Arnd draft that got overhauled (but maybe not totally). Star Wars Anthology Rogue One will also have a female lead played by Felicity Jones.
Another important female role in Force Awakens is Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma, the metallic Storm Trooper. So female villain.
Lupita Nyong’o is playing a mo’cap alien who is a pirate with a castle that hosts Mos Aisley-type of misfits. Allegiance (good or bad) is not known but many think the character is seen when giving the lightsabre to Leia in the second trailer.
There are also undisclosed roles for Crystal Clarke and Christina Chong (a black and an Asian actress for those who monitor diversity casting).
And last but not the least, Princess Leia.
So that’s pretty good male/female ratio. Female lead. Female villain (though not the main one). Female supporting characters.
Adam Driver looks like a badass.
I wonder how strong of a role Lupita Nyong-O have.
The little film that could at The Academy Awards!
