The international trailer for Snowden has just been released. The film stars Joseph Gordon Levitt playing the former C.I.A employee who leaked classified NSA information.
We don’t get to see any cast members in the teaser trailer, but the music and the tagline alone sets the tone for what’s set to be a tense drama. “One Nation under surveillance, for liberty and justice for all”

Snowden is released on Christmas Day
I found JGL devastating in “Mysterious Skin.” “Manic,” “The Lookout “and “Brick” were also intensely vulnerable performances. It’s been a while since he’s done those kinds of roles in a straight up drama, but his comedic and action-oriented performances show versatility. Whatever the role, though, there’s a frankness, intelligence and energy to his performances that I always find refreshing and engaging. Gem of an actor who’s still under-utilized, in my opinion. Maybe this year will change that…
Couldn’t agree more that Oliver Stone is a great match for this material. He may not be subtle or necessarily objective, but he’s a passionate and singular storyteller. If he’s not going to tackle both sides of the issue (and I take it from the teaser that he won’t), I hope he goes all out to deliver a thoroughly chilling film. The teaser is promising.
I like JGL, he makes good choices, is savvy and professional and he’s a good actor. But he doesn’t break my heart, if that makes any sense.
I too really admire Oliver Stone’s unrelenting approach to film making. It has made him one of the most distinctive of filmmakers. Re Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I think he has emerged as one of the best of his generation. He was heartbreakingly good in 50/50, and has also traversed rom com, action, period dramas and sci-fi. He’s come a long way!
JPNS said:”I love it when, at least to my perception, someone loves what he is doing rather than working mainly for the dough], have fared rather well (Platoon, and Born on the Fourth of July) and, in the end, far better than just ‘anyone’ in general.”
Agree with this. Stone was a hero to me in the my formative cinematic days. At the height of the Reagan era, with troops in Central America, people were flocking to blockbusters and romantic comedies. Salvador was like a bomb detonating in the middle of it all.
There’s a passion in his work that I love.
Have to honest thought, JGL is nice, but I find him a bit bland.
Just for kicks: Primarily for my own movie-going needs, I would have chosen Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann, Steven Soderbergh or Ridley Scott for this project and given the selected one all (of) the freedom in the world.
.
But Oliver Stone seems to have always been genuinely interested in this type of film [I love it when, at least to my perception, someone loves what he is doing rather than working mainly for the dough], have fared rather well (Platoon, and Born on the Fourth of July) and, in the end, far better than just ‘anyone’ in general. So, I’m looking forward to the real trailer coming our way at AD soon.

ICYI: Michael Bay joins Coens in steering clear of Oscar race. His Benghazi drama to open in January.
Wow…blown away.
A surefire Oscar player
Not much to go on here. If I had to pick my ten most anticipated of the second half of the year, they would probably be (not counting the blockbusters):
1. The Danish Girl
2. Joy
3. Suffragette
4. Steve Jobs
5. The Hateful Eight
6. Black Mass
7. Sicario
8. Carol
9. The Walk
10. Bridge of Spies

For what it is, it’s a great trailer. Love the upsidedown flag.
I have Snowden 5th on my list of most anticipated movies of the 2nd half of 2015.
