Robin Write of Write Out of LA decided to interview Yours Truly for some unknown reason. He asked a variety of questions and afterwards we debated whether anyone would want to read such a thing. He seemed to think they would. If you’re interested, you can check out the interview, along with all of Robin’s rad writing over at his site.
Great interview.
Amazing picture =)
Very good interview, Robin. I look forward to reading Sasha (almost) daily, the way I did Ebert and do Manohla Dargis. She’s honest and eloquent and personal. Agree about “Ex Machina” this year, and even though I don’t much like “Gone Girl” I’ve enjoyed all of her writing about it. And her Cannes journals are succulent.
That was a great interview Robin and Sasha. I’m the same age as Sasha and I remember watching the Oscars when I was a little girl, but in 1991/92, something clicked within me when The Silence of the Lambs was nominated and went on to win 5 Oscars. Ever since then, I’ve been sadly hooked on an awards process that is not fair or transparent, but it is what it is. I came to enjoy Sasha’s writings about 10 years ago. I primarily supported her because she was a woman who spoke/wrote extremely frankly. There are quite a few things I don’t always agree with her on, but I always, always come back here to read her brutally honest, and non-objective ;-), rants and commentary, because at the end of the day, I respect what she does and contribute in this arena.
Oh, I see Wells has found me, and appears to think I am Larry King! What a shame.
I loved every word! Great, insightful, fresh! Where would we all be without you? No seriously Sasha. You aren’t just writing about the Oscars. You are chronicling our life and times THROUGH your writing about the Oscars. And DO publish a book! Your Cannes diaries! Would buy it!
I think Sasha’s being a tad humble here, of course people want to read this stuff. Why is nobody turning around and giving at least some gratified coverage to those content providers out there? And I will continue to plug away at the fascinating sides of this media / film jungle that is not really covered anywhere else. Appreciate the time and the praise very much.
Hats off to Bob Burns too for also being humble and honest.
And yes, the opening question was asked with Almost Famous in mind. Well spotted.
Thanks to all here and everywhere else for this response to this interview. Quite overwhelming.
Good read — both parts. The subject, AD’s own Sasha (Stone), also tells it like it is. And I enjoy every second of it.
.
(I especially love the candid part where Sasha — neutrally speaking — seemed to have been in a period of soul searching or, frankly speaking, virtually drifting from one place (college) to another (not in a purely literal sense, though).)
.
Anyway, though I’m not implying anything counteractive, the first question [Part 1] somehow got me thinking about the proper interview session taking place […] where William asked Russell and the latter replied, “To being with: everything.”. Almost famously wished Sasha would have said that, just for kicks. : )

One more thing: I know Robin was just being tongue-in-cheek about Jackman-Hathaway duo parody.
For some reason, to me I imagine someone with a rocker feel like Sheryl Crow or even [don’t laugh] Diane Lane or Sasha’s favorite (?) actor Jessica Chastain portraying AD’s own Chief Editor.
.
(I’ve never seen Ryan’s picture or Robin’s; so, naturally, I have no comment.)
.
Last but not least, I, too, love the top-page image: this could be a CD jacket cover.
Dig if you will the picture — Artist, Sasha Stone; Song, Blowing in the Wind [the revamped version of Sasha’s fav artist Bob Dylan’s classic].
After this interview I reiterate, what is needles to say: Stick around, Sasha. Continue to be an advocate for women, for minorities, and in general for good movies and be a pain in the ass for those who don’t believe in equal rights and deny the climate change.
I think the Oscars would be much worse without Sasha. Writing about what should be recognized is vastly more important than picking winners.
Nice of Sasha to mention me, but I wrote very little for the blog itself. I administered the forums for several years, but got burnt out when the art house cinemas closed here in my town. No fun to invest that much time and energy when you haven’t seen 80% of the good films.
My loyalty to the site was, and is, to Sasha’s excellent writing and fine character.
I love that pic of you Sasha.
