During the last week of Emmy® voting, HBO made The Leftovers series finale available to stream for one week on YouTube. Get to it, Television Academy.
Today, HBO made a smart move in streaming The Leftovers series finale for free on YouTube for exactly one week. This move coincides with the final week of Emmy voting, which ends Monday, June 26. If for some reason you’re living under a rock, then you have no excuse not to catch the episode. It emerges as a smartly rendered hour with incredible performances and smart writing. A perfect way to close the series, The Leftovers series finale received massive critical praise and may just push the series into the serious Emmy consideration it deserves.
My opinion: drop everything and binge the entire season (if not series) on HBO Go or HBO Now. The Leftovers stands as one of the finest series HBO ever mounted, and the final season is nothing short of miraculous.
The Television Academy should strongly consider the series for all major categories. Outstanding Drama Series. Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Justin Theroux). Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Carrie Coon). Outstanding Direction for a Drama Series (Mimi Leder for the series finale). Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. It deserves not only the nomination but also the win for each of them.
