The first slate of Oscar presenters for the 90th Academy Awards was announced early this morning. The presenters, including past Oscar® winners and nominees, are Mahershala Ali, Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Laura Dern, Jennifer Garner, Greta Gerwig, Tiffany Haddish, Tom Holland, Kumail Nanjiani, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone and Daniela Vega.
“Whether returning to the Oscars stage, or gracing it for the first time, each of these artists bring their own distinguishing and energetic appeal,” said De Luca and Todd. “Their contributions will make for an unforgettable evening.”
Ali and Davis both won last year. Ali won an Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role for Moonlight. Davis won an Oscar for Actress in a Supporting Role for Fences.
Gerwig, Nanjiani and Robbie are all nominated this year. Gerwig is Oscar-nominated for Achievement in Directing and Original Screenplay for Lady Bird.
Nanjiani is Oscar-nominated for Original Screenplay shared with his wife Emily V. Gordon for The Big Sick, and Robbie is Oscar-nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for I, Tonya.
Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the Oscars which will air live Sunday, March 4, on the ABC Television Network.
I’m ecstatic Daniela Vega is presenting. It makes me personally happy that there’s more trans people succeeding in cinema. She should’ve been nominated for best actress, but I’m still happy the Academy is recognising her.

I can’t wait to see emma Stone hand the trophy to Gary Oldman for the darkest

They’re trying really hard, huh
Emma Stone should just apologize and give the oscar she won to Amy Adams for Arrival, or Isabelle Huppert for Elle, or pretty much any other Best Actress nominee of last year.
Why should the only one to give her award to other who might be deserve it more? I am looking at you Hooper, Haggis and Cameron.
No need to apologize. Emma deserved it, and she won SAG, Globe and BAFTA, too.
No, she didn’t deserve it at all. At the time they just ate the film up, in retrospect all the other 4 actresses and Adams were miles better.
We could argue till the cows come home, but the majority of the Oscar, SAG, Globe and BAFTA voters thought she deserved it. That’s showbiz!
It’s weird Gerwig is presenting, given that she is one of the big players of the night.
Is that a sign that LB will be empty handed or at least Gerwig will be? I find a nominee presenting an award tends to a sure sign that they are unlikely to win an Oscar. Presenting is usually a consolation prize.
I don’t think the people deciding on presenters know any better about the winners than anyone else. The Academy is large.
To add to what others commented on this the only 2 people to know the winners are the accountants (they even print out cards for every nominee and put them all in different trucks that all take different routes to the Oscars (then they only unload the correct one). They are quite serious about it.
But safe enough assumptions can be made sometimes…
I dunno, I don’t think they will be counting out her winning screenplay… I imagine most people who produce the Oscars aren’t in the game of predicting them too. Though they may want to get her up there just in case she doesn’t win something.
“Though they may want to get her up there just in case she doesn’t win something.”
Yeah, maybe that’s the principle. It just seems to happen a bit too often for it not to be somehow connected to what looks like it will win and what doesn’t. Tiffany Haddish announcing the Oscar nominations, with Andy Serkis, no less… was there really even a 1% chance that either of them would actually be nominated at that point?! 🙂 I know I didn’t think so. They probably do talk to voters, whether on purpose or not, and have a better idea than the random viewer does about what can and can’t win…
Yeah nominations are different though, lots of people know the nominations before they are announced and they announced the presenters the night before (way after voting had closed) so they almost certainly knew who was nominated before they picked presenters and it definitely felt like a consolation having them up there.
There’s a difference between knowing the actual result and have an idea of how it go or the perception of the way it’s likely to go. There is a lot perception that LB and especially Gerwig is likely to go empty handed. She cannot win BD and is very unlikely to win BOS or BP(which she is not nominated for) either.
Oh, I see – I didn’t know that. So the count is less secretive for the nominations? Is that how people find out? Interesting…
Yeah I mean when I say heaps it’s probably only like ten or something but they have people make the graphics and put it all up on the website (unreleased) ahead of time and everything like that and apparently (though it didn’t seem like it this year) they go through how to say the more difficult names with the presenters ahead of time so at least a few people must know for them to do all of that.
Didn’t know any of that, either – very interesting!
You always seem to know a lot more than most people about how the Oscars work, the nominations process and all that. Is it just that you’re very interested in that stuff, and have read a lot about it, or do you have some connection to the industry? (If you’re willing to share that, of course.)
I dunno I just read a lot of stuff like most of that came from reading interviews over the years with people who produced the Oscars. I certainly don’t have a connection with the industry (I live in New Zealand so it’d be pretty hard for me to be in the Hollywood industry)…
Cool!… You must also have a pretty good memory! 🙂
The voting is still taking place. Even if it was final, the producers would not be privy to any of the results.
Ahhhhh… men! *takes a big whiff*
Daniela Vega!! 😀
That must be a first: a Latina trans presenter. Too bad she isn’t up for Best Actress, too.
That’s a real sucker move Casey Affleck. T’Challa will be in the building Oscar night which is a good thing.
Tiffany Haddish! I hope they give her a category full of hard-to-pronounce words just to work the haters into a tizzy.
Notably missing — Casey Affleck. Probably not a good look making an appearance this year.
I wonder who will present best actress. Laura Dern would be my pick.
I wish they could go back to what they did back in 2009 or 2010 when they invited 5 actors and/or actresses to present the acting awards.
God no!! That was horrible and sooooo long. Just stay with the clips.
How about Denzel Washington, the guy who should’ve won Best Actor? 😉
Sorry. Casey deserved it …
So people who think showing respect to foreigners and pronouncing their names correctly (while laughing uproariously about not doing it) are “haters”, huh?
She really struggled and didn’t “laugh uproariously”. She was born in L.A. in poverty and lived in a foster home. She doesn’t know shit about how to pronounce an Italian name. Give it a break.
She was a disgrace
